2013-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on some guys coming back from TJ surgery: Joe Wieland, Drew Hutchison. Do you like them for 2013, 2014 ?
(tbwhite from San Diego)
I prefer Wieland, though we gotta wait on both. I really think Wieland can be a solid fantasy asset thanks to half of his games being in Petco (in addition to some real talent). (Paul Sporer)
2013-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Please say something nice about Joe Wieland and/or Drew Hutchison, I'm trying to move them....
(tbwhite from San Diego)
#1 and #2 on the top 100 next year FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Paul Sporer)
2013-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Aroyds Vizcaino is a good bet to contribute in 2014? What about Padres pitching prospects Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland? Any chance any are rotation bound next year? I've got them all as minor leaguers in a deep NL-only 12 team keeper league, hoping at least one pans out as a middle of the rotation arm.
(brokenarrow from Texas)
I'm done on Vizcaino, never really loved him. He's gotta prove something to me. LOVE Erlin and like Wieland as well. I think both can contribute, maybe even later this year if needs arise for SD, but definitely next year. (Paul Sporer)
2013-02-15 12:00:00 (link to chat)Which of Casey Kelly, Joe Wieland, Robbie Erlin has the most value for 2013? Long-term? 12-team NL-only Scoresheet league.
(Mark68 from A Mile High)
Erlin is my guy there (Jason Collette)
2012-07-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Are my Padres ever going to make a run again, or was 2010 the closest we're going to get? What does the future of the Padres organization look like, what is the state of our minor league system?
(I aint Quentin from Beutiful San Diego)
The Padres have one of the deepest farm systems in baseball, and the key is whether that depth can overcome the lack of starpower. We've started to see some of the pieces of a future Padres contender already, with Yasmani Grandal and Yonder Alonso, and on the offensive side, Rymer Liriano should be coming sometime in 2013. Getting Joe Wieland and Robbie Erlin from the Rangers for Mike Adams at last year's deadline was a very nice move, and the Padres should be able to acquire more talent this July for Street. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-04-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Derek, thanks for the chat. Many people know I am better performer in the second half of season career-wise. Would you mind name more players you consider worth monitoring or even prospects who could have a big showing?
(Adam Laroche from National Capital)
Sorry, Adam, but I don't buy the whole first-half/second-half thing for most players. As far as prospects that could be recalled and make an impact go, there are a lot of guys that could fit the bill. To name a few: Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Trevor Bauer, Joe Benson, Joe Wieland, Robbie Erlin, Leonys Martin, Tyler Skaggs, Jacob Turner, Brad Peacock, Jarrod Parker, Nolan Arenado, Danny Hultzen, and Brett Jackson. (Derek Carty)
