2015-02-26 20:00:00 (link to chat)Will Billy Burns ever be an useful fantasy OF thanks to the steals? Maybe a OF4 with impact steals... Is Jarrod Dyson his floor or ceiling, and can he steal 50+ bases? Thank you!!
(Daniel from Texas)
The problem is that Burns can't hit. He's more Tony Campana than Jarrod Dyson. (Bret Sayre)
2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on BIlly Hamilton? Will he eventually steal close to 100 bags in the majors?
(Luke from MN)
In total or in a single season? First, he has to learn to play CF. I worry about pure-play, no-power speedsters like him, which is why I was down on Dee Gordon last year, but Hamilton is such an extreme case that it's hard to see him NOT having some type of Major League job at some point, even if it's as a 5th OF/pinch-runner. If Tony Campana can have a Big League career, Billy Hamilton sure can! (Cory Schwartz)
2013-02-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Tony Campana have any upside? He is terrible, right?
(Alex from Chicago)
At baseball, yes
(though not useless) (Sam Miller)
2012-09-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)With the Reds having such a good year and a good shot at the World Series, do you agree with their decision to not call up Billy Hamilton? As a pinch runner alone, he could be such a weapon. Guys like him can disrupt the game so much on the basepaths. I've seen Tony Campana do it so many times with the Cubs.
(Kyle from Wilmette, IL)
Hello, Kyle, love your city a whole bunch. The Reds have one of the best management teams in the game, and one of the very best GM's in Walt Jocketty. Knowing how forward thinking that group is, I am sure they debated that subject a lot during the second-half of the 2012 season, because Billy Hamilton had an extraordinary season. I am sure they know their player better than we do, because Bill Bavasi, who runs their minor league system, has incredible feel for young players' ceilings. I know that he is scheduled to play in the Arizona Fall League, and he would still to eligible to replace an injured player if the Reds wanted him to be on a post-season roster. Baserunners can be disruptive in the playoffs, but a lot of things have to be taken into consideration before you promote a player from Double-A. (Dan Evans)
2012-10-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)If you were hired by the Cubs and could "play God" for just one day, what changes would you make?
(mcquown from Chicago)
I would ship Tony Campana off somewhere where I'd never have to see him again. Let's be honest, there's little I could do in one day to improve the Cubs and they seem mostly to be in good hands, so why not get a little no-cost personal gratification in getting a player who annoys me off the roster. (Colin Wyers)
