DateQuestionAnswer
2014-01-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who's the better bet for impact in 2014: Marisnick or Robbie Grossman?
(Rex Little from Big Bear CA)
Marisnick. I just think the tools are better to make an impact. (Craig Goldstein)
2013-05-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Robbie Grossman holds down a starting spot as part of the Astros future? I hated to lose him, although it was worth it to get Wandy. He doesn't do anything great except draw walks, but there may be room for growth.
(James from Morgantown)
Guys who have no power but do walk a lot really fascinate me. The Angels have a more extreme case in J.B. Shuck who became somewhat of a curiosity to me when he was coming up through the minors. If we think of it as a straight theoretical game theory problem where pitchers pick spots to throw to and hitters swing or don't swing, there's no reason ever to walk Shuck (or Grossman). They're not going to make you pay with home runs. Yet pitchers are imprecise enough and they're discerning enough that they make it work.

And no, I don't see much of a future for Grossman. (Zachary Levine)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)What are the chances Robbie Grossman makes it as an everyday CF/lead off hitter in the bigs?
(Alex from Houston)
Highly unlikely (Jason Parks)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)What would Robbie Grossman have to do to be a solid starting outfielder for the Astros (long-term that is; he'd only have to hit about .250 to be better than what they have currently)?
(Ashitaka1110 from Houston, TX)
Grossman can certainly play in the big leagues, I'm just not sure I see a regular. He lacks the ability to hang in the middle of the outfield and he doesn't fit the offensive profile most teams look for on a corner. He can help in Houston this year, but they will need to upgrade as they get closer to fielding a consistently competitive team. (Mark Anderson)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)What players do you receive the most questions about?
(John from Pittsburgh)
Jurickson Profar, Robbie Grossman, and Bryce Harper (Jason Parks)
2012-02-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Robbie Grossman really elevated his stock in the AFL. Do you still hear any concerns about his ability to play everyday? Have you heard any good comps for him?
(Chad from Buffalo Grove, IL)
The biggest issue with Grossman is that he's a corner outfielder without a classic corner profile, so does he do enough other things. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like better and why, Starling Marte or Robbie Grossman?
(jsdspud from My Desk)
Marte can play a premium defensive position with more skill. Grossman is a Texan and I like that, but he isn't on Marte's level as a prospect. (Jason Parks)
2011-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Lot's of conflicting reports from prospecting mavens recently on Robbie Grossman (BA Calis vs. Fangraphs and now minorleagueball.com). My gut says Starling Marte is the better prospect, but I have to disagree with BA that it's not particularly close. My gut is wrong?
(marjinwalker from DC)
Grossman is tough guy to wrap your head around. He does a lot of things, but has some real weaknesses, and has a weird profile as a corner outfielder. I do like him, however, and I think it's close. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)I saw your twitter comment about Sterling Marte's ceiling. Do you think he will ever develop more plate discipline or will this keep him from reaching his ceiling? How does his ceiling compare to someone like Robbie Grossman who is a walking machine?
(Seth from Nanty Glo)
I think he will develop more discipline, but I doubt he approaches the heights of the suggested ceiling. That would be a superstar, and as much as I like Marte, and trust me, I do, I don't him becoming the best at his position in baseball. (Jason Parks)
