2012-11-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who plays Andrew Brackman in 2008 YANKEES SYSTEM?
(bradleyankrom from nyny)
Manny Banuelos. Pretty sure 2008 was the one Brackman sat out while rehabbing from Tommy John. But I can also see an argument for Betances--starter with lousy control becomes bullpen guy. (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)The Reds just picked up Andrew Brackman in a classic change of scenery situation. Supposedly the heat is still there when he's pitching out of the pen and he's made some mechanical tweaks. Any chance he can be an effective high-leverage guy?
(RMR from Chicago)
Nope. (Jason Parks)
2011-06-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, what's wrong with Andrew Brackman? He's completely lost any semblance of control and command and his velocity keeps dropping: some had him as low as 87 on the fastball in his last game. I can't imagine the Yankees trotting him out there over and over if he's hurt, is this just a major mechanical issue?
(zs190 from Maryland)
I don't THINK he's hurt, but I don't know for sure. When he breaks down mechanically, he REALLY breaks down. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-06-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who am I dealing by July 31? Montero, Romine, Sanchez, Banuelos, Betances, Brackman, Cervelli, Pena, Nunez, other?
(Cashman from Bronx)
Nobody's going to give anything that will help a championship run for any of the last three. I can maybe see Gary Sanchez or Andrew Brackman traded, maybe even Austin Romine, but Banuelos, Betances and Montero are probably untouchable. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-06-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Steve, you've been pretty dismissive of Andrew Brackman (I can only assume you wrote the rather scathing comment in the book) but he has been outstanding lately with an incredible K/BB. Not a believer still?
(Adam from NY)
I did write the scathing comment, and regardless of what happens I still think it's right--the first round is not the place for outright speculation, and even if Brackman eventually becomes something useful I disagree with the philosophy that made the pick possible in the first place. He has been good lately 46-6 strikeout walk ratio in his last 47 innings, and that he has found his command given his lack of experience is a heck of a thing. But he's also a 24-year-old pitching in High-A ball. Let's talk again when/as/if he moves up. (Steven Goldman)
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Andrew Brackman? is his stuff all the way back from TJS?
(David from NY)
I'm still not a believer. He'll make the top 11, but there will be other pitchers ahead of him. It's hard to ignore the ceiling, but at the same time, he's 23, has never pitched in a pro game other than Hawaii, has a TJ, and has no record of sustained success ANYWHERE, EVER as an amateur. That's way too many red flags for me. People who have seen him in Hawaii are saying the same stuff they said when he was an NC State. Love the body and the velo, but after that, not much else to love. Not a big fan. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-08-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, who do you think has a higher ceiling: Gerrit Cole or Andrew Brackman? Higher probability of reaching that ceiling? How do they compare to Joba, stuff-wise?
(Sam from MyKingdomForALeftyville)
Cole; Cole; Don't compare them to Joba. I've never been a Brackman believer. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-03-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Bryan, What players do you think will be around in the draft when the Yankees are selecting? Any chance of a stud falling to them because of salary concerns (I know this is even more slight with the Tigers choosing before them)?
(jschmeagol from Weifang, China)
The real question above, I think, is whether Gerrit Cole has Boras take his demands high enough to drop in the Tigers or Yankees region. KG talked at the Chicago book signing about how teams are more likely to go above slot this year, so that indicates Cole is a little less likely to drop. I think the Yankees taking 6-8 Scott Green would be a nice compliment to Andrew Brackman and a slap in the Red Sox face, who nearly signed Green last August. (Bryan Smith)
