DateQuestionAnswer
2020-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)How does Jack Leiter stack up against the top pitchers from this draft (Lacy, Hancock)?
(Full size man turd from In the litter box)
Leiter is a college freshman RHP at Vanderbilt, who impressed in just 4 games in the abbreviated season. He is the son of former major league pitcher Al Leiter. Last year, he was a projected first-round pick, but advised teams prior to the draft that he would honor his commitment to Vanderbilt.

The BP prospect team is quite high on Leiter. He is as polished as a teenage arm comes, with advanced pitchability and excellent command. While he lacks prototypical size, he possesses a deep, four-pitch arsenal, including a low-to-mid-90s fastball (T96), a potential plus (or better), knee-buckling curveball, and a sharp, mid-80s slider. Leiter is neck-and-neck with his teammate Kumar Rocker as the top arm in the 2021 draft class.

I do prefer Hancock and Lacy to Leiter given proximity and pure stuff, though Leiter's stuff has taken a step forward and his stuff/command profile rivals Hancock and Lacy long-term. (Jesse Roche)
2010-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which baseball annoucers are your favorites? I enjoy the rapport between Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone quite a bit and the Red Sox guys (Orsillo and Remy) are fun too.
(JG Ballard from Vermillion Sands)
Vin Scully is my favorite, hands down. Great bit from the Sons of Steve Garvey site yesterday (http://www.sonsofstevegarvey.com/2010/03/vin-scully-on-bill-veeck-and-colored.html) about Scully telling a story about racism, Bill Veeck, and the flight of major league spring training facilities to Arizona.

I'm no Michael Kay fan, but I really like Ken Singleton on the Yankees games, and enjoyed David Cone while he was around. Al Leiter is decent too. I don't mind Krukow and Kuiper for the Giants, even though they're "the enemy" to a Dodger fan. For national games, I'm really eager to hear more of Jon Sciambi on ESPN, because he's a friend of BP and because I like what I've heard. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jay, who are the pitchers coming onto the ballot next year? I've heard that there's going to be a wave which will cut into Blyleven's vote count. Is that true? Also, do you see the Vets Committee enshrining Lou and Tram after Tram drops off the ballot (this seems, rather unfortunately, inevitible).
(David from Huntersville NC)
Pitchers eligible for next year's ballot include Kevin Brown, John Franco, Al Leiter, Wilson Alvarez, Ugueth Urbina, Ismael Valdez, Paul Quantrill, Cal Eldred, Kirk Rueter and Steve Reed. I don't see any of them cutting into anybody's support, and other than the first three, I don't see any of them even getting through the nomination stage. Though if Mike Jackson can... (Jay Jaffe)
2010-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)FYI, next couple of HOF classes are thin. Best candidates for 2011 are Bagwell, Raffy Palmeiro (zero shot), Kevin Brown, Al Leiter and Larry Walker. Best candidates for 2012 are Bernie Williams, Tim Salmon and....I dunno, Carl Everett? Rick Helling?
(El Angelo from elangelo@gmail.com)
The 2012 class is thinner than prison gruel. Honestly there aren't five guys among this lot who would get more than a single paragraph out of me in the JAWS series:

Edgardo Alfonzo, Pedro Astacio, David Bell, Jeromy Burnitz, Vinny Castilla, Scott Erickson, Carl Everett, Jeff Fassero, Alex S. Gonzalez, Danny Graves, Rick Helling, Dustin Hermanson, Jose Hernandez, Brian Jordan, Matt Lawton, Javy Lopez, Bill Mueller, Terry Mulholland, Jeff Nelson, Phil Nevin, Brad Radke, Joe Randa, Tim Salmon, Ruben Sierra, Jose Vizcaino, Bernie Williams, Eric Young (Jay Jaffe)
