2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi, thanks for your great work. I'm excited about the new BP team and for baseball to start! I'm looking for a catching prospect I can target. I'm at least 2 years away from competing in my dynasty league (2 C league) so i can take a risk if needed (not that catching isn't risky, but you know what I mean). Caratini, Zach Collins, Mitch Garver, Bruce Maxwell, Josmil Pinto, Keibert Ruiz, and Jose Trevino are all on my waiver / draft board. Which of those guys (or someone else) do you think could not murder my team, or maybe even contribute!, and will stay a C? Thanks for any input.
(madjockmcferson (simon mcpherson) from Norton, MA)
Literally have not seen Josmil Pinto's name in a while. How deep is this dynasty league. Collins is the guy to target, he may not end up a catcher long term (it wasn't easy to find people who thought he'd stick when doing the White Sox stuff), but if he does the offensive potential here smokes everyone else.

As for the rest, a lot of people asked about Maxwell on the A's list, and I think he is a better real life player than fantasy. Graver has some helium off the AFL, but he is also blocked now, and I think he's similar to Maxwell. Trevino you are betting on High Desert performance being real, which, don't do that. Keibert Ruiz is significantly more than two years awa...yeah just take Collins and hope you don't end up with a first baseman. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2015-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)With the Padres trading for Christian Bethancourt, who do you ultimately like most out of Hedges, Norris, and Bethancourt? Who has the most trade value?
(padremurph from Los Angeles)
Worth noting they grabbed Josmil Pinto off waivers from Minnesota right before Thanksgiving as well, so clearly they are pursuing an all-of-the-catchers strategy this winter. I have no idea how that shakes out, honestly. Norris is just now entering arbitration, so he's going to escalate quickly. I'd guess barring a trade that the current plan is to work him a little at first this year and have the other three work out reps in the bigs/at AAA to see which two emerge as the top two going forward, then look to spin Norris at the deadline/next off-season? That's pure speculation on my part, though. Hedges' glove remains dreamy enough to give him some value as a trade chip, though if I'm the Padres I'd just as soon keep him around. And I think R.J. nailed Bethancourt's question marks this morning: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=28046 (Wilson Karaman)
2014-12-11 18:00:00 (link to chat)Josmil Pinto got sent to AAA last year to work on his game behind the plate. Did you see or hear of any improvement in his catching ability?
(Twins Fan in Exile from DC)
I caught (no pun intended) a couple times after he was sent down. He's never been known for his glove, and he never will be, but I thought he showed a little progress in Triple-A. There was some refinement to the receiving and game calling, and the blocking remained solid. I still think he's a solid everyday guy. (Mark Anderson)
2014-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Josmil Pinto ain't gonna hit 342/398/566 like he did in September last season. But can he be a league average starting catcher?
(Paul from DC)
You're right, he's not hitting that over the long haul, but he absolutely can be a solid everyday catcher. He's really underrated nationally right now, in my opinion. (Mark Anderson)
2013-11-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)The Twins are reportedly interested in Saltalamacchia. I'd personally like to see that money spent on pitching (and more pitching). It seems like Josmil Pinto would be a solid option, especially for a team that's still in a rebuild mode. Am I missing something?
(thrillho from minneapolis)
With Pinto on the scene, I don't see any reason to pursue Salty. (Jason Parks)
2013-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you feel Josmil Pinto has developed enough defensively to handle at least a portion of the Twins everyday catching duties in 2014?
(Travs Hound from Arkansas)
Yes. Especially considering they gave Ryan Doumit's corpse 99 games behind the plate over the last two years. (Bret Sayre)
2013-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Josmil Pinto's ready to shoulder most of the Twins' catching load this year?
(ErikJH from Wash DC)
I've had some recent interesting discussions on Pinto with Parks as we've discussed the Twins Top 10 that should be out next week. The consensus seems to be that Pinto is a no doubt everyday backstop, but I think they may need to either give him some help if they bring him up right away, or find someone to cover until about mid-season when he's truly ready. (Mark Anderson)
2013-10-07 18:00:00 (link to chat)Any under the radar catchers going into next year? I'm stuck with Wellington in a 20 teamer
(Mitch from Iowa)
Hi Mitch

In a 20-team league, probably not. Yan Gomes would be more of a sleeper if everyone would stop talking about him, but still might be in your format. If the Twins consider moving Joe Mauer to another position, Josmil Pinto is instantly intriguing. (Mike Gianella)
2013-10-07 18:00:00 (link to chat)List 5 hitters and pitchers that you feel could be breakout players in 2014. Thanks for the chat, Mike!
(Brett from The Office)
Hi Brett.

Hitters: Christian Yelich, Billy Hamilton, Oscar Taveras, Avisail Garcia, Josmil Pinto.

Pitchers: Jameson Taillon, Rafael Montero, Drew Smyly, Jimmy Nelson, Taijuan Walker. (Mike Gianella)
2013-09-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Josmil Pinto or Derek Norris for 2014 in an AL only league? Can keep either for $1. Thanks!
(Neil from London )
Norris for sure. We might be seeing the best SSS of Pinto. (Paul Sporer)
