2021-03-03 12:00:00 (link to chat)Can you please help me understand some of the really weird values the Ax generated recently for my 11-team AL-only 5x5 (OBP) Roto league? Here are some of the values & projections (R/HR/RBI/SB/OBP): $4.83 (99th hitter) Martin Maldonado 29/9/30/1/.280 (279 PA), the 10th C off the board. $4.80 (100th hitter) Kurt Suzuki 29/9/32/1/.308 (253 PA), the 11th C off the board. * Why value Maldonado > Suzuki? $4.44 (104th hitter) Yuli Gurriel 74/22/84/4/.318 (609 PA), only the 6th 1B off the board(!) * Why value Maldonado > Gurriel? One last example: The *last* 1B off the board was $.89 (130th hitter) Hunter Dozier 74/21/77/5/.326 (622 PA) * Why value Gurriel more than $3.60 above Dozier when their projections are so similar? Thanks very much for any insight you can offer!
(DiamondStars from The US and A)
These questions are always really tough to answer without seeing the specific league settings because roster spots also factor in heavily to the positional depth calculation, which would be my guess for what's driving some of this. In the first case my guess would be that the replacement level OBP for catcher in this league is so bad that Maldonado's extra volume is actually a positive there, even though he otherwise looks equivalent or worse compared to Suzuki. Gurriel's extra homer and 7 RBI may be worth more than you think in this context, although I'm also seeing projections that are slightly different to yours and less favourable to Dozier! If you send over a direct link to your league setup on the AX, I can check with our tech team and make sure nothing weird is going on. (Darius Austin)
2019-08-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)A "rebuilding" team in my dynasty league traded Yuli Gurriel straight up for Matt Tabor. This is objectively awful, right? Even if you're rebuilding, it would seem like Gurriel, who he traded amid his recent tear, would have far more value in 2020 and maybe even 2021 than Tabor, a pitcher still in A ball. Why do dynasty owners think "rebuilding" means give every single asset over the age of 30 away for nothing?
(Jordan from South Dakota)
Objectively awful might be a touch strong. I don't know if I would've made that move, but Gurriel is 35 years old, so it's justifiable. Tabor looks interesting.

I do agree that over-30 guys wear scarlet letters in dynasty leagues. (Mark Barry)
2017-04-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are there a couple of players we should try to steal in fantasy leagues now? And who main events WrestleMania 2018?
(NatsGM from DC)
Two good questions. First, I recently snatched up Yulieski Gurriel in one of the BP fantasy leagues. Maybe I'm just trying to earn brownie points with Bret Sayre, but I also believe he's going to still provide some nice value this season. I know there are still a ton of question marks with Buxton, but you could probably get him as cheap as you ever will right now. Also, it's possible you could get someone to sell pretty low on Jose Bautista right now. As for Wrestlemania...I think we're looking at Lesnar vs. Reigns as a main event. (Eric Roseberry)
2017-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who's your hitting and pitching deep sleepers for 2017 for deeper leagues - say 16 team or so - and why?
(Anthony from Lunch)
Whats for lunch? Seriously, I'm starving. Um...I'll give you one each. Robert Gsellman & Jharel Cotton on the pitching side. I keep coming back to Steve Pearce as a guy who is a lock to outperform where he's getting drafted. Same goes for Yulieski Gurriel & Asdrubal Cabrera. (George Bissell)
2015-06-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who is the next big international hitting prospects we should be looking out for?
(Basil from Mid-Tex)
I mean, Yulieski Gourriel (3B - Cuba) is the obvious bat that comes to mind, but he's 30 years old and no guarantee that he'll come to the United States to play. This is far from my specialty, but we keep hearing a ton about Eddy Julio Martinez, Lucius Fox, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (J.P. Breen)
