Date | Question | Answer |
---|---|---|
2015-05-05 15:00:00 (link to chat) | What's next for Wilin Rosario? (gerrybraun from san diego) | After this chat we're getting an apartment together. (Nick Shlain) |
2015-04-13 15:00:00 (link to chat) | What's up with Wilin Rosario? Is his potential upside, what's left of it, worth holding onto him or do I cut bait and pick up Derek Norris? (ramtax from Maryland) | I'm assuming this is a fantasy question? I usually gchat Mau or Craij with my fantasy questions, have you tried that? (Sahadev Sharma) |
2015-01-20 19:30:00 (link to chat) | Wilin Rosario or Mike Zunino in a dynasty keague? (kylanje from Florida) | Zunino. Rosario won't be catching by 2017, and that's at the latest. (Ben Carsley) |
2015-03-19 14:00:00 (link to chat) | He's Wilin, but how many ab's will Rosario get this year? Will they seriously take ab's away from Morneau?
Make a bad staff worse by exposing them to Wilin's deficiencies? (g4baseball from california) | I'm feeling Wilin Rosario will get around 300 at bats for this upcoming year with the Rockies. 60% of those at bats at catcher while around 20% at 1st to spell Morneau once in awhile. I don't think they will take too many at bats away from Morneau but does give them some a backup in case of injury even though he is limited in his defense. (Rob Willer) |
2015-02-16 11:00:00 (link to chat) | Would Wilin Rosario make sense for Tampa? (Noodle from Texas) | Doubt it. Tampa Bay seems to value the defensive end more than most these days, which makes Rosario a dubious fit. Plus he hasn't hit well in Coors, so it's not like his bat makes up for it. (R.J. Anderson) |
2014-08-08 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I have Segura, Wilin Rosario and Shelby Miller in a keeper league where they'll be cheap next year. Should I have any confidence that one or more of them will rebound? And would you hold on to any of them over Danny Duffy or Drew Pomeranz for the same price? (Sjcolmus from Baltimore) | I like Duffy going forward. Would drop Rosario for him, and while I'm not optimistic on Segura, I'm hopeful he can rebound a bit. Pomeranz isn't very good. (Craig Goldstein) |
2014-07-24 19:00:00 (link to chat) | I recently traded Wilin Rosario and Starlin Castro for Christian Yelich and a future draft pick. Good move? And in how many years does Ryan McMahon take over the catching duties in Colorado?
P.S. Thank you for the chat. (Drew from Rockford, IL) | I'm the president of the Starlin Castro fan club, but objectively I don't like this deal too much. I think Castro has more value than Yelich short and long term. Don't think McMahon catches in Colorado, really like his profile however. (Mauricio Rubio) |
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Thanks for the chat JP! Better ROS at C-Brian McCann or Wilin Rosario? (Shawnykid23 from CT) | Give me Wilin Rosario. He was a Top-5 fantasy catcher last year, and I'm still a believer. (J.P. Breen) |
2013-06-04 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Paul. Thanks for the chat. Two questions as to who you would choose for dynasty league purposes: Marte or Leonys Martin, and Wilin Rosario or Grandal? (NY Ray from New York) | Marte, Rosario. And not JUST bc they are both doing better this year. (Paul Sporer) |
2013-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Wilin Rosario looks locked-in right now. 25-HR potential? (Nate Dogg from Eastside Motel) | Hi Nate, thanks for the question. Rosario hit 28 last year at age 23, so yeah. Without a doubt, yeah. (Geoff Young) |
2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat) | Wilin Rosario a good comp for Jorge Alfaro offensively? Just drafted him at the end of our keeper league minor league draft to speculate on the upside. (Corey from NYC) | Paging Jason Parks! Alfaro is 19 years old and has never played above A-ball so I'm the last person who should speculate on anyone's future from that starting point. I know what I was like when I was 19... (Cory Schwartz) |
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat) | Is Wilin Rosario the real deal? (Benji from STL) | I guess that depends on what you mean by "real deal," Benji. His 2012 season looked about as expected with a modest average, few walks and lots of power. I think he can continue to provide that type of production, which makes him a really good offensive catcher. (Mark Anderson) |
2012-12-18 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thanks for the chat today. After a poor showing last year is there hope for some value in Devin Mesoraco this season?
Also do the Rockies still plan on that horrible idea of limiting starters to 75 pitches? (Tommy from Flowmont) | You're welcome, thank you for joining! Catching prospects are poor fantasy investments. Even the can't-missiest of can't misses Matt Wieters has been underwhelming from a fantasy perspective. There is so much to their development that isn't related to hitting that they often take a while to fully develop. There are exceptions like Wilin Rosario but that's because he plays in Coors and doesn't actually know how to catch. The rule is that prospect catchers aren't worth it *cough* D'Arnaud *cough*. Re: the Rockies, I'm not sure. Walt Weiss is a complete unknown at this point. If so, it really limits any upside guys like Chacin, de la Rosa or Nicasio might have. (Paul Sporer) |
2012-11-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What does the future (statistically) hold for Wilin Rosario, and what position/ceiling do you anticipate for Xander Bogaerts in Beantown?
Thanks. (Chopper from Indy) | Good questions, Chopper. From an offensive standpoint, I'd expect to see more of the same from Rosario - that is, lots of home runs and not very many walks - though a modest improvement in plate discipline is probably attainable with more experience. He led all catchers in homers (admittedly, with help from Coors Field) and was a 1.9-win player in 117 games, so I'd be more concerned about Rosario's defense. He looked very rough around the edges on the few occasions I watched him, and allowed a league-high 21 passed balls. A 3.0-3.5 WARP-per-year future seems possible, if he can improve in those areas.
Regarding Bogaerts, that's probably a better question for Jason Parks and the minor-league team, but I'd assume the Red Sox will give him every chance to stay at shortstop - at least until Deven Marrero is ready. I think he has a chance to be a perennial All-Star. (Daniel Rathman) |
2012-10-30 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What ETA would you expect for Skaggs and Bradley in the Snakes' rotation, and do you think Wilin Rosario is poised to be one of the leading offensive catchers in the game in the near future?
Thanks! (Chopper from Indy) | Skaggs saw action with the big club last year, so he could be in the rotation at any moment. Bradley just finished his first pro season. It was a dominant performance, but he's 20 years old and he needs to improve his command. I'm thinking 2015, with a possible cup of coffee toward the end of 2014? As for Rosario, if he cleans up his defensive game, he'll be a stud behind the plate. If not, his bat is still good enough to be more than useful. (Geoff Young) |
2012-08-30 13:30:00 (link to chat) | is Bryce Harper a lock for NL ROY? Will Wilin Rosario get a serious look? His home-road splits show no Coors advantage. (gerrybraun from sandiego) | I don't think Harper is a lock. Until his two-homer game, Harper had been hitting poorly for some time. If he has a month-long hot streak, the award will probably be his to lose, but if he limps to the finish line, it won't be. As of today, the NL's most valuable position player has been Todd Frazier, who I wrote about in an article that went up on the site during this chat. (That's some impressive multi-tasking.) If Frazier keeps hitting, and more importantly, keeps playing after Votto's return, I think he'd have my vote. Rosario will get some consideration, but I don't think he'll win it. The power is impressive (as Jason Wojciechowski--yeah, I spelled that without looking it up--pointed out today, offense is up all over at catcher), but a sub-.300 OBP at Coors might, and probably should, hold him back a bit. (Ben Lindbergh) |
2012-05-17 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Name a handful of current bench players you see carving out a role and producing fantasy worthy numbers? (Ridin'thepine from Splintersville) | Obviously things would have to break right for each of these guys, but here goes: Jeff Keppinger, Kosuke Fukudome, Brent Lillibridge, Tyler Flowers, Johnny Giavotella, Dave Ross, Juan Francisco, Tyler Moore, Adrian Cardenas, Chris Snyder, Allen Craig, Wilin Rosario, Nate Schierholtz (Derek Carty) |
2012-01-24 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Who do you like better as a long term C - Wilin Rosario or Salvador Perez? (Chad from Fantasyland) | In fantasyland, I'll take Rosario. (Derek Carty) |
2011-03-08 14:00:00 (link to chat) | How would you rank the following catchers? Wieters/Napoli/M Montero/Soto/Iannetta (Pete from Bronx) | For this year only, in 5x5 fantasy value: Soto, Napoli, Montero, Wieters, Iannetta. The top three are all very close and could shuffle in order based on health and playing time. I'm a big Iannetta fan, too, but you can only claim bad luck on BABIP so many times... this may be his last chance, with Wilin Rosario next in the pecking order. (Cory Schwartz) |
2011-02-22 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thoughts on Wilin Rosario? There's one prospect site out there calling him the top catching prospect in the game right now. (Adam from PP) | If you factor in Myers and Harper moving to the OF, and Montero likely moving to 1B/DH (at some point), Rosario is next in line for top catching prospect. I think Sanchez is next in that line, with the tools to head the list next season. I like Rosario; excellent power potential and good skills behind the plate. I don't think he is a special prospect, but he will be good. (Jason Parks) |
2011-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thoughts on Wieters this year as I picked him up in a trade to hedge my bets on Posada's age and Jesus Montero's ability to stay behind the plate... should I go and pick up Wilin Rosario in my draft as well? (Jquinton82 from NY) | I think Wieters will be a league average catcher, which definitely has fantasy value. (Tommy Bennett) |
2010-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I have Wilin Rosario and Jaff Decker in a keeper strato league - what do you feel are the odds for each one to get 50 or more at bats next year in the majors? (goiter6 from MN) | Decker's chances for that many PAs rate pretty low, I'd think, given that he hasn't reached Double-A yet. In contrast, Rosario's chances are fair, even if the Rockies wind up signing some veteran third-man backstop type, and Iannetta and McKenry both disappointing expectations doesn't hurt his chances any. (Christina Kahrl) |
2010-03-03 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Amen, re: crap beer. Which catcher do you like better to leap into next year's top 100 -- Robert Stock or Wilin Rosario? (jlewando from dc) | Rosario by a wide margin. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2009-04-08 15:00:00 (link to chat) | There is a ____% chance that Wilin Rosario's performance this season will make you look like a genius. (Jack from Colorado Springs) | They've jumped him all the way to High-A -- more on that tomorrow. (Kevin Goldstein) |
