2016-05-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Harrison Bader looks very interesting, but I'm a bit worried about the plate discipline. That said, he did have the 2 level jump and when he does make contact it's hard. Think it's something he can overcome in the majors?
(mordecofe1 from NYC)
Well, let me talk about this from my own experience of watching other players make those jumps. The 2-level jump is always hard & provides a big test for players, particularly High-A to Double-A. If you can hit/pitch consistently in Double-A, you may not need time in Triple-A. When I covered Kyle Drabek, he looked like he was major-league ready in Double-A. But, obviously, he ran into a lot of issues. Similar to say Jesus Montero, who looked like the future middle-of-the-order power bat for the Yankees, and, again, nope. Plate discipline issues are normal, especially if a player is making a big jump, or skipping a level. If he's making hard contact, he's likely running into some bad luck. (Jessica Quiroli)
2012-03-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Of the Jays three failed players in 2011 Travis Snider, Colby Rasmus, Kyle Drabek, and Adam Lind, who do you think will put out the most production in 2012?
(Steve from Canada)
I was surprised to see Snider go down this week, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Drabek this week, as he looked really good. I'll go with Drabek. I see little reason to be optimistic about Rasmus or Lind. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)What was your first reaction when you heard about the Vernon Wells trade?
(Erix from Toronto)
First reaction was that they would be getting something else back, like Kyle Drabek or $50 million or both, and it just hadn't been announced. Second reaction was that Vernon Wells and Juan Rivera were awfully close to the same player. Third was like that feeling you get when some drugged-out celebrity dies, that sorrowful realization that they finally reached that tragic end that we all worried about but watched happen without doing anything to stop it. They had traded Mike Napoli for nothing. For less than nothing. For, basically, a $50 million loss. That night was more exciting to me, in a way, than the morning the Angels signed Pujols and Wilson. Staring into the abyss and all that. (Sam Miller)
2012-01-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Fill in the blank: Kyle Drabek will win ___ MLB games in his career.
(Steve C from Toronto)
50 (Jason Parks)
2012-01-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)OK, maybe you can solve this equation: d'Arnaud + X = Felix Hernandez
(dtwhite from Toronto)
X = Kyle Drabek? Probably depends on exactly how many years King Felix has till he hits free agency, which I am neglecting to look up at the moment. (Mike Fast)
2011-12-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Kyle Drabek: Total write-off, or MLB contributor?
(AP from Toronto)
I never liked him, for unspecific reasons, but not writing him off entirely. PECOTA hates him for 2012. (Sam Miller)
2011-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will Kyle Drabek recapture his former ability and contribute in 2012, or a later date? Skills still there?
(Bored Security Guard from Dallas (not by the Lobby Pool))
I'm not really sure. I think the stuff is still there. If he can find some consistency with his mechanics and his head, I think he can contribute at the major league level. He's a competitor, so let's see how he responds to failure. (Jason Parks)
2011-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is it too early to write off Kyle Drabek? He didn't make any adjustments once he was sent down to the minors.
(Victoria from Daytona Beach)
I wouldn't write him off, but I would be very, very concerned. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-09-02 14:00:00 (link to chat)To keep it simple, Kyle Drabek's 2011: WTF?
(Bret from Toronto)
Fell completely apart mechanically and stuck in the tall weeds now. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-05-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)Kyle Drabek is now starting for the Blue Jays tomorrow - what should I expect from him?
(kevinorris from St. Petersburg)
The Rays have had their troubles against good curveballing righties this year - particularly Phil Humber and Gavin Floyd. Drabek lacks the command of those two, but I expect he'll get 6-7 strikeouts tomorrow but he's going up against David Price who has been extremely successful against the Jays over the past two seasons so looking for a win is going to a lot to ask. (Jason Collette (note time))
2011-05-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey John, you think guys like Brandon Morrow, Kyle Drabek, and Alexi Ogando should be held onto or sold for 2011?
(SnakeDoctor18 from NY)
Of the three, I'd be most apt to hold onto Drabek but I'd be willing to give up any of the three if I felt I was getting a really good deal. (John Perrotto)
2010-11-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kyle Gibson or Kyle Drabek -- which one's a better bet in 2011/long-term?
(JB from NYC)
Drabek and . . . Drabek. I like Gibson, but from what I can tell, not nearly as much as others. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-10-12 12:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think the rookie crop of 2011 will measure up to the high standard of 2010? If not, will there still be game-changing rookies to take note of?
(David from New York)
I don't think they will, but that's only because the bar was set so high this year between Heyward, Posey, Stanton and Bumgarner. Santana and Strasburg also burned brightly, if briefly.

But there will still be plenty of great rookies. Jesus Montero will make his debut, Desmond Jennings and Jeremy Hellickson will be full-time players, and Kyle Drabek will probably spend considerable time in the majors. And that's just the AL East! (Tommy Bennett)
2010-08-17 14:45:00 (link to chat)In two years, can Romero/Cecil/Morrow have the Jays in the race? Will they spend that Vernon Wells money on a pitcher? I'd love to see Chris Carpenter come back to the Centre...
(Reginald from Toronto)
I don't think spending money on a 37-38 year old Chris Carpenter is what will catapult the Jays anywhere. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that in 2013, Kyle Drabek will be a more valuable asset than Chris Carpenter. Spend the Vernon Wells money on a really good hitter that can compliment the pitching. (Eric Seidman)
2010-03-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Wait. What? We just sold Roy Halladay for THE NEW OVERBAY!!!! I'm going home to rip my Rogers cable out by hand now. You want some cheap copper?
(Will from Mactaquac)
Wait until you see Kyle Drabek before damaging your own home. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-03-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Career All-Star Appearances for Kyle Drabek 0.5. Over or Under?
(Ron from Vancouver)
Over. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-03-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Shoot, Ken Schrom made an All-Star appearance. Anyone can have a gork year. How about Kyle Drabek, 80 career wins, over/under?
(buffum from Austin TX)
Can I start using "gork year". I have no idea what that means, I just love it. I'll take the over, but I do it with some trepidation, and I wonder if at some point he become a closer and racks up saves, but not wins. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-02-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Can you compare Trevor May (who will be pitching in Clearwater at age 20 this year) to the departed Kyle Drabek (who dominated Clearwater last year at age 21)? What would May have to do at that level to jump up onto your top 100 like Drabek did?
(Jason from Philly)
Throw harder and get an elite-level breaking ball. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)It seems to me that in prospects-for-veteran trades such as the one Ricciardi might be contemplating for Roy Halladay, teams look more for potential aces (Kyle Drabek) than potential all-star regulars (Michael Taylor). One, do you think this is an accurate observation, and two, do you think it's a wise philosophy? (Also: Zen Arcade ranks among humankind's greatest accomplishments.)
(jeffstoned from (Brooklyn))
I do think that's accurate. When you hear people talk about Philly untouchables (even though it's all speculation) it's Drabek always, and even Knapp sometimes, but never Taylor. Aces are harder to find that All-Star outfielders, and I think that's the big difference. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-04-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, thanks for the chat. Between Tim Melville and Gerrit Cole, who is the best pro prospect? It sounds like Cole has the better stuff, but his future might lie in the bullpen. Does it sound like teams are preferring one over the other at this point?
(Brian from Nashville)
Cole is really plummeting of late, mostly on makeup. He's kind of the Kyle Drabek of this year's draft. (Kevin Goldstein)
