2019-03-18 16:00:00 (link to chat) | Does Sergio Romo close for the Marlins? Thanks for the chat Jon. (boatman44 from Liverpool) | You're most welcome!
Yep, I would bet that he grabs that role pretty quickly and holds it until he's traded in July. (Jon Hegglund) |
2013-02-27 20:00:00 (link to chat) | Romo & Holland are amongst my keepers this season - do both keep their closer jobs all year? (Mike from Chi-town) | I'd say yes to Sergio Romo in all likelihood... keeping in mind that the Giants aren't afraid to switch roles at the earliest sign of trouble. I think Greg Holland will be OK, but Kelvin Herrera is extremely talented. If you're a believer in the skills versus roles thing, Herrera's a guy you'll want to grab in deeper formats. (Mike Gianella) |
2013-02-15 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Drafted Buster Posey ($8), Yu Darvish ($10), Yoenis Cespedes ($2), Jayson Heyward ($16), Adam Jones ($19), Adam Wainwright ($23) and Sergio Romo ($1). Get to keep 4, values increase by $3 this year. Definitely keeping Posey, Darvish & Cespedes, so who should be the 4th? I'm leaning towards Heyward. (Steve from Milwaukee) | Can you send an AJ Bombers burger in the mail to me, please? I'm keeping Posey, Darvish, Cespedes, and Heyward. (Jason Collette) |
2012-11-20 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Wondering how the Giants keep winning titles with such a mediocre farm system? The are never ranked very high and they never sign the big free agent guys. What gives? (Paul Reiger from Bay) | The most precise answer is the draft. Their farm systems haven't ranked high because their top draft picks since 2006 -- Lincecum, Bumgarner, Posey -- haven't spent a lot of time in the minors. . John Barr has done a good job, especially considering he's not simply the domestic scouting director but the one who oversees the international front, too. Barr's first draft was 2008 (Posey, Crawford, Surkamp), but in '09 he drafted Zack Wheeler (traded for Carlos Beltran), Tommy Joseph (traded n the deal to land Hunter Pence) and Belt. Brian Wilson and Sergio Romo were also draftees. Romo a 28th rounder in 2005.
It also helps that Bruce Bochy runs a goldilocks clubhouse and they have leaders (Posey, Pence, Wilson) that don't allow things to crumble. (Jason A. Churchill) |
2012-08-27 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Closer Carousel time: 20*35 league, all players have the same salary, how would you rank them? Luke Gergerson, Alfredo Aceves, Sergio Romo, Joaquin Benoit? (Keeper from Deep) | It's still really early, but I'll go Benoit, Aceves, Gregerson, Romo. (Derek Carty) |
2012-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Who gets more saves this year? Mike Adams or Sergio Romo? (Look Closer from some where between Texas and San Fran) | Adams. (Sam Miller) |
2012-03-06 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Any picks for non-closers worth taking for pure K/WHIP/ERA/maybe win-stealing upside? Basically Tyler Clippard types... (Mark from Cleveland) | Kenley Jansen #1, but his save upside will make him expensive. Clippard is good. Mike Adams, Sergio Romo (if they let him face more lefties this year and he gets more than 40 IP), Jonny Venters, Hong-Chih Kuo (if healthy), Joaquin Benoit, Grant Balfour (if he doesn't close), Matt Thornton/Addison Reed (whoever doesn't close). (Derek Carty) |
2010-10-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Battle of the Beards (undercard):
Sergio Romo or Liza Minnelli? (ted from the cubicle) | [slow clap] (Marc Normandin) |
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Sergio Romo. What's not to like? (Jeff from Topanga) | The fact that he's a finesse/deception type? He has value, it's just not immense. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Seems like a down chat for the Giant's future. Callis and Keith Law have both said they have one of the stronger systems, do you disagree with this sentiment? (hrcoll99 from CA) | Not at all. I think it's a very good system. All I said was that Sergio Romo wasn't that great and Alderson was a 3 ceiling. It's a really good system. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2008-07-22 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Last September, you wrote up Sergio Romo in a Ten Pack, describing his arsenal as "the kind of combination that stops working at the upper levels." Joe S. just tagged him as a pitcher to watch for the balance of '08. Do you still stand by last year's assessment or do you think he can continue to succeed in SF? (Ed from Chicago) | I think he'll succeed. Not in a late inning role mind you, but as a solid but unspectacular big league reliever. (Kevin Goldstein) |
