DateQuestionAnswer
2010-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Max Ramirez a long term answer as catcher for the Rangers?
(Phil from Broad & Wall)
All the other options have pretty much gone up in smoke (remember when they had "too many" catching prospects?), so I think the answer is yes more out of necessity than anything else. He'll be decent, though not spectacular. (Tommy Bennett)
2010-05-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)Max Ramirez appears to have put 2009 behind him and is crushing it since he was called up (.276/.371/.517), albeit in only 30 ABs... Is he the answer at catcher for the Rangers?
(Phil from Desolation Row)
I like the idea, if only because he's a better bet to be an offensive asset than Teagarden or Salty ever were, and if he pans out, I could see them sticking with M-Ram and Treanor as a 60/40 offense/defense split, and use one of the fallen phenoms for deadline barter. In such a scenario, I'd expect to get more for Saltalamacchia, but you never know what the shoppers might prefer. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-12-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)I know you prefer to stick to commenting on done deals, but how about your opinion on Max Ramirez possibly moving to Bean Town?
(jlewando from dc)
Definitely like it, especially if it puts Youkilis back at third and keeps them in the market for a real first baseman. Not Casey Kotchman; I said 'real.' (Christina Kahrl)
2009-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)What remains of Max Ramirez' prospect status and where would he fit in the Red Sox Top 11? Any chance he's a catcher in the end?
(Rob from Alaska)
There's still belief in the bat, and he's done well in Venezuela this winter, but I don't think he can catch in the big leagues, and I don't know where else to put him. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)You're JP Ricciardi. Chris Davis, Neftali Feliz, Max Ramirez/Salatamalacchia, throw-in B prospect, and Marlon Byrd for Alex Rios and Halladay.
(Craig from Michigan)
Not enough. That's Feliz and a bunch of guys who've failed. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)How long can Texas live with Chris Davis?!!!! It's now reaching the embarrassment stage.
(Thomas from NYC)
Max Ramirez tanked and Justin Smoak got hurt. It seems like it has to end soon, but you do need to play someone. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-05-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Chris Davis' 50% contact rate an anomaly or a representation of his skill set? Do you send him back down or let him work through it?
(Mike from Arlington)
I never thought he would make contact enough to hit .270. His current performance isn't really representative, though. The problem is that the Rangers have a chance to win and there's a real possibility that Justin Smoak is already the better player, and if he's not, maybe Max Ramirez is. I don't know that you can go into June with him unless there's improvement (noting that "improvement" may not necessarily immediately translate into results). (Joe Sheehan)
2009-04-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)If Chris Davis continues his struggles will it become time for a Smoak break?
(Gavin from County Ct.)
I've been bearish on Davis all year. His strikeout rate won't allow him to hit enough. Justin Smoak, as crazy as it sounds, may be a better player already. He certainly will be by next April. In between...I think if they were to bail on Davis, Max Ramirez would get the ABs. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-04-08 15:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Max Ramirez can be a .300/.400/.500 hitter in the Major Leagues?
(Josey Wales from Outlawville, TX)
No. That gets thrown around a lot -- a 3/4/5 guy, but that's pretty damn rare. For example, last year there was a grand total of eight of them. (Kevin Goldstein)
