DateQuestionAnswer
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)Mike, What innings eaters might the Cubs go after at the Deadline? Thanks!
(Steve Trout from Big & Tall Fitting Room)
If you're talking about pure innings eaters and not aces it opens things up a little bit. Jon Niese is the guy who has been linked to a couple of teams, and Bartolo Colon is a logical guy too (although I haven't heard any rumors about him). Thinking of guys on second division teams, it's kind of limited to be honest. The Rockies really don't have anyone obvious. Jorge de la Rosa? Maybe? Diamondbacks don't. They're not really innings eaters but Mat Latos and Dan Haren aren't quite ace material and would probably fit the mold of a non-ace who wouldn't cost a bevy of prospects. (Mike Gianella)
2014-08-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)When the Mets finally decide to sell off some of their big league arms who do you think will go and what could be the possible return for a Dillon Gee or Jon Niese?
(avery from bronx)
I think Niese brings more back for whatever reason. (Craig Goldstein)
2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat)I've got Halladay and CJ Wilson as my #3 and #5 starter in a points league. Trying to flip them based on Halladay's health and Wilson's walking ways (possible 2011 was outlier??). Anyone you like I should target in a vacuum? I've got Wainwright, Darvish, Peavy, D.Holland, Pettitte and Porcello as the rest of my staff (league really likes [read: reaches] SPs)
(James from NYC)
Sure, I can name dozens of starters I like better than those two, but it depends on the market. Jon Niese and Doug Fister are two off the top of my head, but I have no idea how their current owner(s) value them. (Cory Schwartz)
2013-03-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)In a 5X5 Roto Auction Keeper League, would you keep Jay Bruce at $32 and or Jon Niese at $9. (Some HUGE Mets fans in the league who'd pay 15-17 for Niese.)
(Jeff from Manahawkin, NJ)
Then couldn't you trade Niese to someone who thinks he's a bargain? That might be best value for what you get in return. Exploit the market! (Harry Pavlidis)
2012-03-15 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your sleeper NL only pitchers this year?
(will.I.ain't from roaming)
I chose Jon Niese for the recent Lineup Card on breakout players. Otherwise, I might roll the dice on Chris Volstad with the hopes that he does break out this season. (R.J. Anderson)
2011-05-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Mike, how much would you think a pitching coach should be tinkering with a pitcher who's moderately successful? Mets Pitching Coach Dan Warthen for example has been trying to get Jon Niese to increase his sinker usage (actually occurring) and his change-up usage (which hasnt actually occurred) despite both having been poor pitches in the past. At what point should a pitching coach just let be with what works?
(garik16 from New York)
Josh, you know a lot more about Niese than I do, and IIRC, you've not been happy with the changes Warthen has made with Niese. I'd be inclined to defer to you there.

Certainly I imagine sometimes players ought to listen to their coaches, and I know nothing about Warthen's techniques or philosophy in general, so I'll plead ignorance in this specific case. (Mike Fast)
