2015 Bryan LaHair couldn't hack it in Nippon Professional Baseball, signed a minor-league deal with Cleveland and proved that his bat had regressed below even Double-A level; don't look for him in the 2016 edition of this book.
2013 Bryan LaHair, 2012's most improbable All-Star thanks to an out-of-nowhere first half and a weak crop of NL first basemen, made a smart move by grabbing a two-year, $4.5 million deal to play in Japan for the Softbank Hawks.
2012 “I’m not so sure there is something called a 4-A hitter. It’s just [a] pretty good major league hitter who never got an opportunity,” spake Theo when the topic of LaHair arose. It's important to consider Epstein's new position when evaluating this statement, which is obviously false on its surface. Clearly, there have been plenty of hitters whose statistics show they aren't good major-league hitters, despite tearing up Triple-A. As team president, Epstein's is primarily a leadership position, and while mechanics of swing planes, quickness of swing, pitch recognition, and other hitting-instructor terms do have an impact on how well a batter hits, so does confidence. Sending a clear message that his work has been noticed to “an asset” (as Theo later referred to LaHair) can't do any harm.
2011 Having re-signed journeyman Bryan LaHair to a minor-league deal early, the winter's challenge was whether the major-league team would find a better choice for first base.
2010 After four seasons at Triple-A, Bryan LaHair finally showed some power, hitting 26 homers after never hitting more than 12 in previous seasons.
2009 The Mariners put their LaHair up after releasing Richie Sexson last July, but the big lefty proved to be not only a few inches shorter than his predecessor, but equally clueless at the plate. He's more of a gap hitter than an over-the-fence guy, which doesn't profile well for a limited defensive player at a power position. LaHair has never hit lefties, but he might have value as a part-timer. If everything goes his way, he'll be a poor man's Ben Broussard.
2008 Bryan LaHair snuck into the Mariners' prospect picture in 2006 by wrapping up his first season above A-ball with a .327/.393/.525 showing in 230 plate appearances in the PCL, but just as quietly snuck out last year with a weak full-season showing there.
2007 A 39th-round pick in 2002, Lahair was old for his level in 2005, but caught up by playing well at two levels last year. Big and slow with old-player skills, Lahair`s running out of time if he wants to avoid the dreaded Quadruple-A tag. It doesn`t help that he`s blocked by Sexson and Broussard at the big league level.

2012-05-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)As a cub fan, I taunted my league mate and cardinal fan with a Bryan LaHair for Pujols offer. He actually accepted it. Should I be happy or sad?
(Lesson Learned from jokesville)
Happy. You get all of Pujols' good and he gets all of LaHair's evening out. I think LaHair will end up with a solid season, but nowhere near .356 AVG and probably closer to 30-33 HR than the 41 he's on pace for right now. (Paul Sporer)
