2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)Is Keirmiear for real or is he Sam Fuld part 2? His minor league track record suggests we should be seeing more steals and less power, but we've gotten the opposite so far. Does he have long term fantasy value in a dynasty league? What kind of slash lines and production can we expect from him on a yearly basis?
(Mac from Cheese)
He's a player in my mind. Very handsome as well. I obviously don't believe in the power but I think he has an everyday skillset. (Mauricio Rubio)
2011-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Jay, Looking at the Rays still in the pennant race, if they happen to miss out, how much blame can be placed on Friedman's refusal or reluctance to call up a few players (i.e. Jennings and Moore) who were obviously better than some of the guys they carried earlier (i.e. Sam Fuld)? Some people I know have been highly critical of Friedman, going so far as to accuse him of being incapable of making the right decisions to be able to win in the short-term when they are needed. While I don't agree with that explicitly, I'm wondering how good of a job you think Friedman has done this year, given those criticisms for not calling up better young players sooner in the season?
(Erik from Longwood, FL)
For as much as we laud their smarts in the grand scheme of things, the Rays' front office has made this year's squad's task harder than it needed to be. As popular and swell a guy as Sam Fuld may be, he should have been riding pine once his early-season hot streak ended, while Desmond Jennings played left field; instead Jennings languished at Durham until late July. The Moore decision is a more complicated one in that the Rays don't have a rotation spot for him and they have to mind the innings total of a 22-year-old, but as several have pointed out, he could have been doing Andy Sonnanstine's job if nothing else. As Kevin Goldstein argued (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=15036), the Rays probably should have been more aggressive in dealing to improve this season as well; even taking a flier on Rafael Furcal would have helped. (Jay Jaffe)
2011-05-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)We already know Epstien is one of the best GMs in baseball. Can't argue with 2 rings in 10 years. What do you think of how his moves from last off season are panning out?
(Puppy-D from BAWSTON)
I was a bit stunned to see Sam Fuld still outhitting Carl Crawford a few days ago. I think he is pretty delighted to have Adrian Gonzalez on his squad, though, and eventually Crawford will turn it around. Now, if they can just get Bobby Jenks and Dan Wheeler healthy, the offseason could look about as good as it did in March. (R.J. Anderson)
2011-05-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Sam Fuld has officially morphed back into his original pumpkin form. Does this make it even more likely that Jennings get's an early June call?
(tommybones from brooklyn)
I sure hope so, as he's a much better player. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-04-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Sam Fuld? He's been great for me but I'm not sure how long he'll keep it up and I'm thinking of selling high on him. Thanks Marc.
(DanDaMan from SeaCliff)
As long as he gets playing time--meaning, as long as Desmond Jennings remains in the minors--he should be healthy and productive. If you can convince someone he will actually hit for power, though, then move him. (Marc Normandin)
2011-04-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Tell the internet to get off Sam Fuld's hog and get on mine. Trust me, people, Jason can attest there's room for all.
(Tom Verducci from SI)
Don't you have an awesome article to write? (Jason Parks)
2010-02-16 16:00:00 (link to chat)Do you see the Cubs as an aging team in decline or do they have another run left in them with this group? Fortunately, they seem to have some decent farm talent coming up the pike soon.
(Matt from Chicago)
From a former North Sider, it pains me to say this, but the Cubs are now chasing the past. They do have some good kids coming up, but for some reason, they seem stuck in the mode of needing to have that "proven" guy on the field at all times. Where/when will Sam Fuld play? Will they let Guzman just pitch? Why did they bother with Marlon Byrd? (Russell A. Carleton)
2009-10-02 14:00:00 (link to chat)thoughts on the future for Sam Fuld and Jake Fox?
(Flynnbot from IL)
Fuld is just a guy, a decent fourth OF. Fox is valuable, enough bat to play third or catcher, almost enough glove to do either. I'd play him nearly every day somewhere given the age, injury and performance issues at the various spots. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-03-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Mike Murphy was lamenting today on the radio (WSCR) that the Cubs can't start the season with Felix Pie in CF, that he "just ain't ready," and that he has a huge, looping swing that will prevent him from making consistent contact. Buying or selling this one??
(JWR from IL)
Miss a little, miss a lot. I think Pie is their best option, and I think his PECOTA 50th percentile line of 286/339/469 is not out of the realm of possibilities.

He's certainly a better player than Sam Fuld, who might be a more popular player for his gritty, gutsy style, but can't match Pie's upside. (Kevin Goldstein)
