2012-05-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | The Grand Rapids Grasshoppers ask that you peek into the future to tell us what will become of Michael Pineda. Should we just release him now, avoiding the frustration of another injury-riddled pitcher? Also, what would you do with a pitching coach who has worked with the likes of Pineda, Joakim Soria, Rich Harden, Joey Devine, Francisco Liriano, Shaun Marcum, Adam Miller, et al? lol (GR Grasshoppers from Michigan) | Always good to hear from my favorite ex-36er. Being a Cubs fan, I'd send that pitching coach to St. Louis, of course.
You of all people I don't need to tell about the inherent riskiness of pitchers, but as I said before I think Pineda will come back strong. If I were in, say, a Strat league, I'd hang onto him. Unless you'd rather trade him for, oh, I dunno, Matt Capps. (Ken Funck) |
2012-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Who do you think will end up closing for the A's? (Xavier from Texas) | As of right now, I'd give Grant Balfour the edge, but Fautino De Los Santos and Joey Devine will be in the mix as well. De Los Santos figures to be the long-term option there, especially if he can harness his control/command a bit more. (Derek Carty) |
2010-08-24 14:30:00 (link to chat) | Hey, screw you all! (Joey Eischen from Fungiblerelieverville) | If Joey Devine can stay healthy, you might not even be the best fungible reliever named Joey for long. (Ben Lindbergh) |
2008-01-22 19:00:00 (link to chat) | Bill James' 2008 Handbook projections seem to have Jay Bruce "penciled in" in CF for the Reds his year. Not only that, but those projections are huge. The question is, was the move of Josh Hamilton made with the idea that it'll be much easier to return Ryan Freel to his super-sub role at midseason than it would've been to try to shoehorn Bruce in, or is management serious about giving him the job as long as he doesn't have a disappointing camp? The Braves arguably gave up a considerable amount (in Joey Devine) to buy Jordan Schafer a little more time at a higher level - would Bruce not benefit from at least a couple more months' development at a higher level? (clvclv from Marion, NC) | I'm a big fan of getting superior talent to the major leagues at an early age, especially in the case of position players (not so much with pitchers). What is Bruce going to do in Triple A in 2008 that he didn't already do? If he's going to sit on the bench most of the time, then, yes, send him back. I think he can play in the bigs now, albeit at a reduced rate for a year or so. (Jim Baker) |
