2009 Las Vegas is no place for an extreme fly-ball pitcher, so this Orenduff’s introduction to the rough justice of the PCL didn’t go well at all. A 2004 supplemental first-rounder, Orenduff is a command/control guy with a low-90s fastball, a good slider, and a changeup that remains a work in progress. Unless he can miss more bats, his ceiling appears to be at the end of the rotation; a move to the bullpen may be in order, since his lack of stuff won’t make getting over the Triple-A hump any easier.
2008 After a season cut short by surgery to repair his biceps tendon, this 2004 supplemental first-rounder made a solid return. Still, it's clear he wasn't all the way back as his fastball sat 88 to 90 instead of 90 to 92, his homer rate spiked more than 60 percent relative to his previous go-arounds in Jacksonville, and hitters caught up to him the second time through the order after getting a look at his wares (.314/.369/.577 as compared to .220/.315/.382 the first time through). His ceiling is as a third or fourth starter, but he'll need to show that he's back on track in 2008, or risk getting lost in the shuffle.
2007 A 2004 first-rounder, sinkerballer Justin Orenduff was building on a productive 2005 when he was felled by shoulder impingement problems and underwent surgery in August. Wait and see before expecting a big future--shoulder issues are career-threatening.
2006 A rare Dodgers college pick, Orenduff shook off a disappointing 2004 debut to dominate at Vero Beach and then climb to Jacksonville. He`s a sinkerballer who doesn`t overpower hitters or have as high an upside as his fellow prospects. But based on his experience, Orenduff might be closer to big-league ready than the high-schoolers.
