2010-08-09 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Given tools on hand, how would you manage Phillies Bullpen? (Jay from Philly) | I'd probably add the best reliever in the organization, Scott Mathieson, to the roster and see if that helped. (Joe Sheehan) |
2010-05-28 14:00:00 (link to chat) | How high are the ceilings for Sergio Santos, Craig Kimbrel, Zack Braddock and Scott Mathieson? Which is most/least likely to end up as a better-than-average closer? (leites from New York) | Kimbrell would be my bet for most future saves, but I like every one of those guys. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2010-05-19 13:00:00 (link to chat) | is 100% of Jose Contreras better than 70% of Roy Halladay? 60%?
Yes and yes. Contreras has three quality pitches working for him. a mid 90s FB, a splitter, and a slide rhe works in when the batter concentrates on the other two. Tries the pen for the first time last year and he's devloping fast. Just look at his numbers so far.
Trouble is Charlie's overworking him lately too with Lidge going down and Baez shakey. The Phillies should bring up Scott Mathieson and his high 90s heat for another option.
Mathieson is only 26 but has had 2 TJs (passed the injury nexus?). How many pitchers have excelled after that? (rogero from philly) | And Steve Phillips thinks its hard to be a GM. (Will Carroll) |
2008-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Has there ever been a healthy Canadian pitcher? I'm looking at Harden, Gagne, Dempster, Bedard, Jeff Zimmerman, Loewen, Shawn Hill, Scott Mathieson. About the only counterpoint would be Paul Quantrill. Maybe the Mariners should be dealing Aumont before it's too late. (paulbellows from Calgary) | There's something here and I'd question a lot of northern pitchers as well. If a pitcher does not throw enough when the growth plates are open, he won't get the proper humeral retroversion. Without it, he can't pitch at a major league level. My guess is that it's harder to get enough throwing done when it's cold, but there's a lot of research being done on this now. (Will Carroll) |
