DateQuestionAnswer
2012-05-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Name a handful of current bench players you see carving out a role and producing fantasy worthy numbers?
(Ridin'thepine from Splintersville)
Obviously things would have to break right for each of these guys, but here goes: Jeff Keppinger, Kosuke Fukudome, Brent Lillibridge, Tyler Flowers, Johnny Giavotella, Dave Ross, Juan Francisco, Tyler Moore, Adrian Cardenas, Chris Snyder, Allen Craig, Wilin Rosario, Nate Schierholtz (Derek Carty)
2010-09-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)The Tigers need a catcher to replace Laird (and share time w/Avila) and could use a little bit of power for next year. Marc/Kevin state today that the Pirates need some arms for next year. Does Ryan Doumit for Armando Galarraga work as a fair deal? Would either side hang up right away? Does either side need to add another piece to make it work? Thanks.
(JE from Ankeny, IA)
If I were Dave Dombrowski, I would be more interested in Chris Snyder than Doumit, as the former has more actual catching skills than the latter. The Pirates don't necessarily need Galarraga and I'm not sure what he would do for the rotation aside from provide a warm body who can eat up innings. The Pirates shouldn't pursue deals like this, as Galarraga is not that great of a pitcher and the last thing the Buccos need is a poor-peripheraled starter entering his arbitration years. (Eric Seidman)
2010-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is there an update on the status of Chris Snyder of the Diamonbacks. He was a very productive catcher prior to last year's injuries, with good on base + power. Montero has clearly beaten him out at this point, but shouldn't the Snakes be shopping him? I would think with the dearth of decent catchers he would have some real value.
(rentree from Pennsylvania)
I'm with you on thinking the lack of rumors about deals is strange, given how good Montero is (it's not like 2009 was a surprise, just the fact he got to play all the time was). Maybe the D'backs are waiting until someone gets to spring training and realizes they can't get by with their catcher situation. (Marc Normandin)
2010-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is one reason teams aren't lining up to trade for Chris Snyder the fact that they would have to think about the injury he sustained last year (which shall not be named)? Also he makes 4.75M this year, 5.75 next year and has a 2012 club option for 6.75 (with .75 buyout). That seems a little rich for what he brings to the table?
(Rob from Alaska)
That's why I think the D'backs are hoping someone approaches them in desperation later this spring. Probably the one way the D'backs wouldn't have to pay dearly to be rid of him. (Marc Normandin)
2009-12-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Should the DBacks really be looking to deal Chris Snyder? I don't know much about Montero's defense and while his second half offense last year was prodigious, can you really assume he's that hitter going forward?
(Rob from Alaska)
Yeah, you can safely bank Montero's offense. Snyder's contract and back don't pair well together, and they'd like to not have their backup making that much more than their starter. I just don't think there's any kind of market for Snyder. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-06-20 13:30:00 (link to chat)Hey Joe, thanks for the chat! A fantasy question - In my roto league, .20 points in era could mean the difference between 1st and 2nd place for me. I'm thinking of trading Soto (and an OF, which I have a surplus of) for Halladay and picking up Clement or Chris Snyder, with hopes that the drop-off wouldn't be that significant. Worth the risk?
(Ameer from Bloomington, IN)
Soto has been ridden pretty hard and his BA has been slipping. I think the gap between him and Clement the rest of the way, assuming Clement is C-eligible, is worth Halladay. (Joe Sheehan)
