2009-04-20 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Everyone is acting like the Nats' bullpen shuffle was the result of some major panic. But Zimmermann was scheduled to come up for this start way back in March, and other than Saul Rivera, the front end of the rotation remains in tact (Hanrahan, Beimel, Hinckley, Tavares). Isn't this a non-story? (Charlie from Bethesda, MD) | Would it have looked like this had they not led with three outs to go, three straight days, and lost all three games? Probably not. So there's an element of panic. (Joe Sheehan) |
2008-05-09 14:00:00 (link to chat) | You're Trader Jim Bowden (minus the leather pants) - What deals do you make in the next 2 months? Can you find a taker for Lopez or Guzman? Please tell me you won't trade Johnson. (macman from d.c.) | Lay off of Trader Jim--leather's great material, and there's nothing wrong with working it into your wardrobe. Actually, Johnson's exactly the player he should deal, in terms of the talent such a trade might yield, because Chris Marrero will eventually get here, and because nobody's going to bite on Dmitri Young. Beyond that, he doesn't really have that many chits that might draw interest; it isn't like somebody's going to go wild for Saul Rivera. Maybe one of the veteran catchers yields a C prospect at the deadline (once they heal up), and maybe somebody decides they just have to have Austin Kearns. I wouldn't bet on either. F-Lop just doesn't fit most team's needs--everyone recognizes he can't really play a good short, and there are people who can hit about as well starting at second base all over Triple-A. (Christina Kahrl) |
2008-03-25 14:00:00 (link to chat) | So here's the question I asked at the event in Philadelphia last week: What unlikely players, historically or currently, do you personally root for? Jay mentioned Saul Rivera, Steven followed Wayne Tolleson back in the day, for me it was Jacob Brumfield. (Arthur from Philadelphia) | I was a big, big fan of George Williams, beyond TTO considerations, it was more basically because I sat near his brother and nephews and nieces one game, and I sort of liked the plucky little group of cheeseheads and their happiness over their uncle making it to The Show.
Active, I've become a bit of a silly/irrational fan of Peter Moylan, since he's got the foreign/exotic angle on top of being a side-armer. And as an A's fan, I'm perhaps goofy in that my current favorite Athletic is Kurt Suzuki. (Christina Kahrl) |
