2012-03-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any picks for non-closers worth taking for pure K/WHIP/ERA/maybe win-stealing upside? Basically Tyler Clippard types...
(Mark from Cleveland)
Kenley Jansen #1, but his save upside will make him expensive. Clippard is good. Mike Adams, Sergio Romo (if they let him face more lefties this year and he gets more than 40 IP), Jonny Venters, Hong-Chih Kuo (if healthy), Joaquin Benoit, Grant Balfour (if he doesn't close), Matt Thornton/Addison Reed (whoever doesn't close). (Derek Carty)
2009-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Let's say a desperate GM is willing to take on the Wells contract in a Halladay deal at the cost of not giving up *any* serious prospects. What's the best course of action for Anthopoulos then?
(Phil S. from NJ)
Call me and say thanks for the idea, since I proposed it in June or so. This is BY FAR the best trade the Jays could make, as there's no number of prospects they can realistically get for one year of no-trade-clause Halladay that would be worth more than moving $100 million off their books over the next five seasons.

I get that you can't do it, for PR purposes, but that's the move. Halladay and Wells for David Robertson. Halladay and Wells for Hong-Chih Kuo. Halladay and Wells for Jeff Francouer. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-10-02 14:00:00 (link to chat)Are we any closer to getting your picks for surprise stars from each of the playoff teams?
(Frank Costanza from Queens)
It's like asking me eight questions at once. Not easy. Brett Gardner. Billy Wagner. Aubrey Huff. Erick Aybar. Chan Ho Park. Colby Rasmus. Hong-Chih Kuo. Dexter Fowler. (Joe Sheehan)

Kind of cool to see Hong-Chih Kuo here. Not that having a setup man on an All-Star roster isn't a stretch, but given all the arm troubles he's overcome and how dominant he can be when he's healthy, I'm happy to see anything good come his way. (Jay Jaffe)
