(Bill from Los Angeles)
This is super played out ...

... and as such, right in my wheelhouse.

Xander Bogaerts: Jon Snow
Mookie Betts: Danaerys Targaryen

Ben Cherington: Ned (tried to do the right thing, will probably lose head)
Wade Miley: Catelyn (doesn't do much but yell)
Rick Porcello: Robb Stark (handsome, ineffective)
Clay Buchholz: Sansa (WHAT EVEN ARE YOU?)
Eduardo Rodriguez: Arya (so much potential)
Brock Holt: Bran (takes a lot of forms)
Joe Kelly: Rickon (why do you exist?)
Mike Napoli: Hodor (...yep)
Christian Vazquez: Benjen Stark (plz come back)

John Henry: Tywin (still calling the shots)
Dustin Pedroia: Tyrion (most watchable/resourceful)
Larry Lucchino: Cersei (...)
David Ortiz: Jaime (lost a step but still badass)
Blake Swihart: Tommen (keep trying, little guy)

John Farrell: Stannis (stern but no one seems to listen)
Melisandre: Pablo Sandoval (is your power real or what)
Our Hopes/Dreams: Shireen

Hanley Ramirez: The Hound (unlikeable but powerful)
Koji Uehara: Brienne (still rooting for ya)
Daniel Nava: Pod (you too!)

Junichi Tawawa: Bronn (just gets stuff done)
Allen Craig: Janos Slynt (just doesn't)
Shane Victorino: Jorah (always hurt)
Jackie Bradley: Theon (has he not suffered enough?)
Justin Masterson: Beric Dondarrion (should not have been revived)

Craig Breslow: Doran (smart, ineffective)
Alejandro De Aza: sandsnake 1
Alexi Ogando: sandsnake 2
Tommy Layne: sandsnake 3

The Yankees: Roose Bolton
The Rays: Ramsay Bolton
The Blue Jays: The Night's King
The Orioles: Mance Rayder

And two for the book readers ...
Yoan Moncada: Young Griff
Rusney Castillo: Patchface (Ben Carsley)
2014-12-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)A certain member of your staff who shall remain nameless, but we'll call him Rauricio Mubio for example's sake, has been pushing the "tacos are sandwiches" agenda through private channels recently. Two fold question: What are your feelings on this premise? Follow-up being this: would you give #tacos a 7th year and a no-trade clause to get a top of the rotation taco? First time caller, long time reader.
(AB from Chicago)
I have very strong feelings about this, and by that I mean, I strongly don't care. A sandwich is a sandwich, if you want to call pizza and tacos a sandwich, go for it. I honestly don't care if you're gonna go through life being wrong about what a sandwich is... Your friend Rauricio seems like he needs a sandwich education from the likes of Craig Breslow. Tacos as a sandwich, silliness... (Sahadev Sharma)
2010-04-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Loved your Red Sox interview book. Ever look back at some of the minor league guys from that book who never made it to MLB and think "man, I wish [player X] had gotten further"?
(parkerd from SC)
Thanks, and yes, several of them. Conversley, Craig Breslow has clearly outperformed expectations, while Daniel Bard looked like a washout when the book came out. Aaron Bates made it to the show, which surprised many people. (David Laurila)
2010-02-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you name some players you have interviewed who seem to be well-read? I don't mean players who read, I mean players who have likely read and enjoyed Hemingway or Faulkner?
(marmour from Corvallis OR)
Fernando Perez is an obvious answer. Gabe Kapler, certainly. I'd have to think about it a little to really pull out a bunch of names, but not because there aren't a number of players who are well read. Many are. There are some smart guys out there and a lot of plane rides -- bus rides in the minors -- and they don't all read comic books. Craig Breslow. Kevin Slowey. As I type, I find myself wondering what Lastings Millege reads. He struck me as being thoughtful when I spoke to him last summer, so he may be into things far different than what his image conveys.
