DateQuestionAnswer
2012-07-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who is going to stay with the big club, Dewayne Wise or Darnell McDonald?
(Alex from Anaheim)
This probably depends at least somewhat on Brett Gardner's timetable. Wise is the better defender of the two, and McDonald's main skill -- hitting left-handed pitching -- is already covered by Andruw Jones, but McDonald may be less redundant with the other players on the roster. Now that I've talked myself in circles, my tentative guess is that McDonald hangs around. (Daniel Rathman)
2010-05-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)might the red sox get something from trading darnell? or is he on the way to a cut and a thank you when Cameron comes back? also, apropos of nothing: since you love history, have you ever checked out the memory palace podcast? Short history stories. This american Life-ish. It's kind of amazing...
(timelesselegance from durham)
Nah, nobody's going to give them anything for Darnell McDonald, so it'll have to stick with a polite thank you. Since I routinely enjoy "This American Life," it sounds as if I'll definitely have to check out the Memory Palace podcast, so thanks for the tip. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-04-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Reds top of the order....Hairtston Jr. and Darnell McDonald? What gives?
(SaberTJ from Cleveland, OH)
Hairston's going to play against lefties, and Taveras is sick, giving McDonald a start. Me, I would have played Dickerson against the no-split Santana, put Hairston in center and sat McDonald. I'm not Dusty Baker, though. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-02-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Minnesota signs a veteran like Kenny Loften to platoon in CF and play lead off? Will Gomez start the year in AAA or will he beat out Jason Pridie and Denard Span?
(Mike from Minnesota)
No, and they shouldn't bother. If you're going to be an also-ran, why sign Lofton (who can't really play center any more)? And to some extent, they already have one such guy, in that Darnell McDonald is on the 40-man, and he's actually pretty handy. I suspect this will be the big opportunity for guys like Pridie and Span to show something now, while Gomez polishes his game in Triple-A--which he definitely needs to do. (Christina Kahrl)
