2016		Tsao's Wikipedia page alleges that, in no particular order, he accepted “wine and sex” from the mafia in exchange for throwing games in the Taiwan Series; once spoiled a Steve Trachsel no-hitter; embezzled $1.6 million as part of a beef-noodle-soup restaurant scandal; recorded the fastest-ever pitch by a Taiwanese pitcher (100 mph); made two Olympic teams; was banned from the Australian Baseball League; and went eight years between MLB appearances. Can you believe Steve Trachsel almost threw a no-hitter?
2008		Labrum and rotator cuff woes kept Chin-Hui Tsao from fulfilling his promise in Colorado, and after a strong start with the Dodgers, his shoulder troubles returned to wreck yet another season.
2007		We once called Chin-Hui Tsao a `lulu` of an international free agent signing, but after years of shifting roles, heavy workloads, and several major arm injuries, he`s become a long shot, begging the question, Is it better to have had great talent once, even if you have to leave most of it on the surgeon`s table, or to never have had it at all?
2006		After missing nearly all of 2005 with shoulder surgery, Tsao is on track on his rehab but won`t be ready to handle a full spring training workload in March. He`ll spend 2006 working on his fastball and changeup, with the breaking pitches to come later, though if he remains in the bullpen as planned, he may be able to get by with just the first two. That 2003 season in Tulsa is getting smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror, and after the injuries, it`s impossible to know if Tsao will burn out or become a bullpen sleeper by July.
2005		There were several philosophical discussions about the nature of a Colorado pitching prospect that started around Tsao. He missed significant time in 2004 because of external obligations, shoulder soreness, and blister problems. The Rockies see Tsao as a future closer, which is what every team heading for 65 wins needs most, rather than a starting pitcher, right?
2004		The prospect that Cook wasn't, easily the Texas League's best pitcher, and one of the game's best big league-ready pitching prospects, Tsao came back from his 2001 Tommy John surgery with a vengeance. His slider had bite and is especially tough on lefties, and his velocity was back in the low 90s. There's just about nothing he doesn't do well, and he takes his fielding, hitting, and baserunning seriously. A hamstring injury after his call-up cut into his big league debut, keeping him rookie-eligible. The tragedy, such as it is, is that he's coming to Coors, which over the next five years or so might make him the most unappreciated big league starter since Pedro Astacio.
