2012 The Mariners released Denny Bautista in July, and he signed with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization. The Eagles play in Daejeon, a city of 1.5 million. Daejeon's official Sister City is Seattle, so, hey, same thing, nice job.
2011 The Giants brought 27-year-old fireballing journeyman Denny Bautista in as a non-roster invitee to spring training, called him up in May, got the usual abundance of strikeouts and walks over the next three months, then designated him for assignment in August. He signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners and will get a chance to be ridiculously wild in relief.
2010 Denny Bautista is forever intriguing because he generates plenty of velocity on his fastball with his incredibly long legs, but his 4.9 BB/9 keep him from sticking.
2009 Bautista has a long, loose frame and a great arm that routinely delivers 95 mph fastballs, which might give you the impression he's a superstar waiting to happen. However, five teams have already taken a look—and a pass—in five seasons because of two fundamental reasons. The first is that he can't throw strikes, the other that he can't get anybody out. Non-tendered and then re-signed to a minor league deal, if there's a safe bet in these times, it's that people will keep trying to harness his ability, and will subsequently avail others of that same opportunity.
2008 Denny Bautista has allowed just 11 homers in 194 1/3 innings over the last two years. Maybe he's getting there. If so, the Tigers might have pulled off a steal in getting him for Jose Capellan.
2006 The Royals haven`t had a pitcher strike out nine batters in a game since July of 2002. The Rangers have had four nine-K games in the past three years. Every other team in baseball has had at least seven. You can understand why the Royals are excited about Bautista, who throws in the upper 90s all game. He was rushed to the majors, and not surprisingly strained his shoulder. He should be healthy; he would have pitched in September if the Royals weren`t absurdly deliberate in his rehab process. Bautista complements his velocity with a groundball/flyball ratio approaching three. Zack Greinke and Bautista give KC a pair of potential aces. Their ultimate success may be the one thing that can spare the Royals from being officially demoted to the Atlantic League.
2005 It's still a mystery how the Royals managed to trade Jason Grimsley to the Orioles for Bautista, who immediately became the team's best pitching prospect. He's far from a finished product, but he throws very, very hard, and his curveball is very, very good. Bautista averaged nearly seven innings a start for Wichita after the trade, and was pitching (poorly) in winter ball, so in the short term he may struggle from overuse. It would be a mistake if he's in the rotation come Opening Day.
2004 Pedro Martinez. The first thing that's always mentioned with Bautista is that he's a good friend of Pedro's, who's been a sort of pitching coach and general advisor to the young man. Bautista's numbers aren't nearly as good as Pedro's at the same age (Pedro had some of the best translations ever seen coming up through the minors), but they are still very good. The Orioles traded Jeff Conine away to get him, but it was too late in the season for the O's to see his 95-mph fastball for themselves. Needs to harness his control to further tap into his raw talent.

(David from NJ)
My gut tells me Pedro ends up with the Pirates, where he could mentor the youngsters, including his cousin Denny Bautista, and be reunited with Joe Kerrigan. I just don't think there is going to be much of a market for him. (John Perrotto)

PITCHf/x Pitcher Profile

A Collaboration between BrooksBaseball.net and Baseball Prospectus - Pitch classifications provided by Pitch Info LLC
