2010-02-17 16:00:00 (link to chat) | It seems clear from most of the Nationals blogs that The Constituency is no longer patient, and Mike Rizzo's honeymoon is already over. I have been pretty happy with the moves the Nats made this off-season, but I have to agree that too much depends on the health of folks like Chien-Ming Wang, Scott Olsen and even Chris Duncan.
The Nats will be better this year, because they can't help but be. However, is the view of the Nats' offseason more charitable at BP or anywhere else outside of Nats fans' disgruntled little world? (HalfStreet from Fairfax VA) | The kinds of things the Nationals need to do to improve their team just can't be done in a single offseason. To evaluate them on that basis almost isn't fair. I feel the same way about Rizzo. I have a hard time identifying actual things he's done that are that bad. I don't love the Pudge signing and Wang is probably done (but it's a nice gamble). They have to focus on the draft and on international scouting. There's no other path to .500. (I'll hold off on a discussion of Adam Dunn for the next question.) (Tommy Bennett) |
2008-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Christina's roundup of the NL Central yesterday suggested that Chris Duncan's neck injury could be career-ending. That's the worst prognosis for it that I've read anywhere. Are you hearing anything on that one? (Bill from New Mexico) | Its a good description. I'd say "career threatening" and I think that's the phrase doctors have used. (Will Carroll) |
2008-05-05 12:30:00 (link to chat) | ASU's Ike Davis: Chris Duncan 2.0? (Mike from Philly) | I know where you're coming from, but I think you have to give Davis some credit for clearly being more athletic than Duncan, and he has that arm from the outfield that Duncan doesn't. Offensively, I could see that being a decent comp, without knowing Davis' specific LHP/RHP splits. (Bryan Smith) |
2008-05-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I'm thinking of trading Chris Duncan for Nick Johnson in an NL-only league. Thoughts on Johnson so far? Any hope he stays healthy in his walk year? (mymrbig from NOLA) | They're all walk years for Nick Johnson. I'd make that deal...Duncan could see his PT chipped at in St. Louis. (Joe Sheehan) |
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat) | What do you think of the Cardinals offering Chris Duncan, Anthony Reyes and your choice of Wellemeyer, Thompson or Jiminez for Tom Gorzelany? (Jack from (Charleston, WV)) | As much as I really, really like Gorzelanny, that's too much to give up. But then I can't shake the anticipation I have of seeing the Cards line up a trio of lefty-hitting howitzers in their outfield at some point: Rick Ankiel, Duncan, and Colby Rasmus. That's just a fun bunch to have at your disposal. (Christina Kahrl) |
