(Ben from SD)
OK, Ben, this is how inept I am at prospects: I had to look him up. I did not know Bobby Witt had a kid. Or one who played ball. And is still in HIGH SCHOOL, fer crying out loud. Anyway, that, too, is a fantastic question to ask my pal Jeffrey Paternostro during his chat at 1 PM EDT tomorrow. Here's a link so you can submit the question to him: https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=1484 (Rob Mains)

Soooooo there's a lot of Bobby Witt, jr questions and while obviously I have heard about him for years, the correlation between 1.1 dudes a year out and 1.1 picks isn't as strong as you'd think. Beyond that I have no strong thoughts. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2010-07-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Good afternoon Jay! Of those currently HOF-eligible, which player had the longest career with nowhere near the stats to merit consideration for the Hall? (aka an overly long mediocre career)
(dianagramr from NYC)
On the most recent ballot, David Segui's JAWS came in about 40 points below the HOF standard at first base, a pretty wide gap. Shawon Dunston was about 56 shy, but that was before WARP's replacement level got raised; a quick check tells me he's still even further off than Segui. Among the pitchers, the worst I recall coming across was Bobby Witt, who today would be about 43 points below the average HOF starting pitcher. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-06-07 18:30:00 (link to chat)Will the 2005 draft ever be topped??? It was topped before it ever happened, in 1985. I just wrote this for tomorrow morning's draft piece: . The first round included, in order of selection, B.J. Surhoff, Will Clark, Bobby Witt, Barry Larkin, Barry Bonds, Pete Incaviglia, Walt Weiss, Brian McRae, Joe Magrane, Gregg Jeffries, Rafael Palmeiro, and Joey Cora, as well as Cameron Drew, who put up outstanding numbers in the minors until a knee injury ended his career at 24, while the second round held Bruce Ruffin, Mike Schooler, and Randy Johnson (John Smoltz was hiding down in round 22). And Bo Jackson too (a flyer in rd 20)!

See? Steven Goldman knows all. (Kevin Goldstein)
