2012-11-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)A good historical comp for Andrelton Simmons would be ... ?
(Paul from DC)
Dave Concepcion? I don't buy Simmons' bat to the level some do. But he's a really good defender. (Jason A. Churchill)
2009-03-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)When evaluating Alicedes Escobar I think you have to ask two questions: 1. How likely will Escobar reach the offensive/defensive production of a Davey Concepcion or Larry Bowa? 2. How valuable was that production? What would be your answer to those questions?
(LindInMoskva from DC)
We first off, lets get this out of the way -- Dave Concepcion was a very valuable offensive shortstop for his time, Bowa was night. They were VERY VERY different players at the plate. They were both outstanding defensive players, like Escobar is. I think Escobar ends up a plus defender who hits for a nice average but offers little else offensively. That's still a good ballplayer. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-05-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Omar Vizquel make the Hall of Fame? If so, is he the worst BBWAA inductee? Assuming he gets in via the writers, of course.
(Eric J from Tulsa OK)
Hard to say. I don't think we have any idea what the BBWAA is thinking, collectively, and we could see some silliness as regards narrative in the next 20 years. Maybe Vizquel benefits. Since he's 102% of Dave Concepcion, and 95% of Alan Trammell, I'd say he wouldn't be worse than Sutter. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Future overrated in HOF vote: Omar Vizquel?
(ElAngelo from White Plains NY)
He's a better Dave Concepcion. Vizquel versus Trammell might be an interesting discussion.

One of the problems with evaluating shortstops for the Hall is agreeing on measurements of defensive performance.

Oh, and the guy I think is going to get hosed is Barry Larkin. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-01-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)my prediction: Goose in. Rice misses by an extremely small margin. Much, much bleating commences over the voters who submitted blanks to protest roids users, thus depriving the "deserving" pre-roids slugger.
(TomH from Lexington Park MD)
The Goose is Loose! He gets 85.8 percent, and he's the only one who gets in on this ballot.

Rice falls just shy at 72.2 percent, setting him up for a 15th-year push.

Raines 24.3 percent. Oh is that ugly.
