2012-07-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)did you watch the futures game? Who were some of the players that impressed you the most?
(Brian from Worcester)
I was only able to catch a few innings as I had some stuff come up. Profar looks amazing, Bethancourt has a howitzer for an arm behind the plate, Gose is an incredible athlete, and Rick Sutcliffe really sucks at commentating. (Jason Collette)
2009-01-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)When it comes to how to build a team, maybe Casserly is better than Millen on TV. When it comes to talking about actually playing football, though (which Millen did), why should he be such a pariah? Dan Marino holds a lot of records. He still can't construct a sentence. Orel Hershiser...great pitcher, great analyst. Rick Sutcliffe, damn good pitcher, damn bad analyst.
(ekanenh from Capital City)
I'll agree here -- I was railing against the idea that a guy THAT bad could tell us much, but you make a great point about presentation, which is why we have Steve Phillips. I'd like to think it was a meritocracy, but it's not. (Will Carroll)
2008-08-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)6 weeks later, was the Cubs pickup of Harden as good if not better than CC Sabathia? Will only the playoff results determine this?
(Gray from Chicago)
It is remarkable how well each pitcher has done. In terms of SNLVAR, Sabathia's at 3.7 in 10 starts for the Brewers, and Harden at 2.4 in eight, so Sabathia has the edge. Here's a question: if Sabathia keeps going at his current pace, and the Brewers win the wild card, or even the division, does he get Cy Young/MVP consideration? It's amazing the parallel that can be drawn to Rick Sutcliffe, who was traded from the Indians to the Cubs midway through 1984 and won the Cy after going 16-1 with his new team. It's not going to happen this year, in all likelihood, but it is fun to think that Sabathia could possibly repeat that. (Caleb Peiffer)
2008-03-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Bryan, A few friends are wondering about Phillipe Aumont. We had a chance to see him play and he was in a class by himself. You compared him to Rick Sutcliffe, do you still like the comparison? Would you put him into a future 'ace' type, or more a #2-3. merci.
(Marco from Drumondville QC)
Did I ever compare him to Sutcliffe? That might have been KG, but I don't dislike it. I saw Aumont at the East Coast Showcase when he was in high school, and he was my favorite player at the event. Period. His size, his projectablity, his potential are all top notch. He has ace in his ceiling potential, but there's a lot to overcome, first. (Bryan Smith)
