2009-12-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Will Nolan Ryan "cure" injury-prone Rich Harden by having him throw more? If Harden does throw more than 200 innings, is Ryan a genius?
(Drew W from NoVA)
Ryan? You meant to say "Mike Maddux," and the answer to whether or not he's a genius is perhaps better answered by saying an exceptional technician is worth his weight in gold, which is why the Rangers filched him from the Brewers in the first place. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-10-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)What were your impressions of Derek Holland's rookie year?
(Trevor from Fort Worth, TX)
Uneven and very promising, but I guess I'm the sort of optimist who believes that if you hand Mike Maddux great raw material, you're going to get results. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-03-06 14:00:00 (link to chat)I don't know about the other two, but Danks only really figured it out after the pitching coach in Chicago taught him to throw a cutter. It's hard to knock the Rangers for that.
(Aaron from YYZ)
Well, why can't they get their own Don Cooper instead of whomever they've had as their pitching coaches over the past decade? And why can't they keep their guys healthy? I do think that the arrival of Mike Maddux marks a step in the right direction, but it's a first step. (Jay Jaffe)
2008-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Rangers pitchers have been getting hurt constantly the last few years. Should we expect the change in pitching coaches, from Mark Connor to Mike Maddux, to help that situation?
(Adam J. Morris from Houston, TX)
Without blaming Mark Connor for a systemic problem, I do think that Mike Maddux coming available is about the best possible situation for the Rangers. With the organizational mandate to pitch more, I think Maddux's focus on pitch sequencing will help some learn efficiency. On the other hand, I think the Rangers are also willing to break some pitchers to find some good ones. I just hope it's not the good ones they break. (Will Carroll)
2008-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will, in your opinion, who are the top 3 pitching coaches in the game today (or employed recently)? Briefly, why?
(Rick from Chicago)
Do you mean in the game or guys like House, Wolforth, etc? I'll take this as in the game and say that if I were GM, the guys I'd want to interview to be my pitching coach would be Jim Rooney, Brent Strom, and Leo Mazzone. (Mike Maddux and Dave Duncan have jobs, so I don't think they'd be available.) (Will Carroll)

2008-10-02 11:00:00Thursday Playoff GamesBrett Myers (four hits all year) battles away and gets a big round of applause when he fouls off a 97 mph fastball and extends the plate appearance to nine pitches before drawing a walk. That draws a visit to the mound from Mike Maddux.

Adam (BJM Fan Club): kevin: you've talked a lot about audio and video. give us a peek on the inside and lets see the set-up. bp readers want to know.
