2009-05-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)As a fantasy guy, I'm wondering what your take on Garrett Atkins is. This isn't exactly sabermetrically correct, but I'm getting a bit of a Morgan Ensberg vibe on him - late bloomer, short peak, rapid decline. He's never been terribly athletic. Is this a common player development curve?
(Rob from Alaska)
Am I still a fantasy guy, even though my Tout team sucks? (I'm midpack with the same strategy in the CBS Experts League!) Anyway, yeah, I actually like that comp. So does PECOTA (#3), so I can't give you points for originality, dawg. You gotta work on your artistry ... wait, sorry, slipped into Idol mode. (Will Carroll)
2009-02-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)What was the point of the Morgan Ensberg signing by the rays, especially if Wily Aybar is about to get an extension? Also, who do you think the Rays will cut bait with to make room for Shouse?
(jlarsen from chicago, il )
Bringing Ensberg in on a minor-league deal is perfectly reasonable. If they don't have a spot, let him go or trade him. I would think Bradford's surgery opens the spot for Shouse. (John Perrotto)
2008-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)This is random, but both Morgan Ensberg and Dallas McPherson were cut during the offseason. The Yankees guessed wrong on that one?
(Joe from DC)
The answer is "platoon bat!" McPherson swung the wrong way. (Steven Goldman)
2008-03-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)If you were going to take one 3B upside pick late in the draft, would it be Willy Aybar, Wilson Betemit, Morgan Ensberg, Dallas McPherson, or someone else altogether?
(Fantasy Manager from Scoresheet League)
Third base is loaded this year, but it's also kind of cut and dry. I'm not particularly fond of anyone on that list, though taking a late, late flyer on Ensberg is tempting. (Marc Normandin)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Christina, thanks for the chat. Here's my question--I've been surprised that Morgan Ensberg and Dallas McPherson were both a)non-tendered, and b)haven't been signed. Both of these look like valuable 3B to me, albeit neither in the immediate recent past. Should we expect to see them in someone's training camp in April, or are they really not worth signing?
(Adam from DC)
They'll both wind up with somebody; to a certain extent we're in that stretch of time where some players have to simply put up, shut up, and sign, before everyone goes in that dreaded "some other direction." There are still teams without a starting third baseman (the Phillies, Giants, and Marlins, for example), so I'm assuming either man's agent should be pestering those teams on a near-daily basis at this point. (Christina Kahrl)
