2019-05-13 16:00:00 (link to chat)Are you more likely to tune in to the Twins' TV broadcasts this year or you still fully hitting that mute button? If the former, what have you thought of Morneau? Kaat? Any others you'd like to see on?
(The Cat from it my house now)
Following up on my earlier comment: Justin Morneau has been great. LaTroy Hawkins was also good last year. Roy Smalley is always solid. Glen Perkins and Michael Cuddyer have a chance to be really good. Generally speaking, I'm in favor of younger players getting an opportunity. Not only can they speak about the modern game, and tell stories about competing against players still active, their overall enthusiasm level is higher and, in the Twins' case, they seem to put far more prep work into doing the job. (Aaron Gleeman)
2015-07-23 17:00:00 (link to chat)So I have tickets this Sunday to see Conforto and the Binghamton Mets play. Really worried Conforto won't be with the team. What are the chances I get to see him? Are the odds in my favor? Please Sandy, just keep him down until Monday!
(Jeffery from NJ)
40% chance you see him. Depends on if Michael Cuddyer goes on the DL or if they insist on dragging his carcass around. (Mike Gianella)
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)Michael Cuddyer's first three months with the Mets have been terrible- he's arguably the biggest problem with the team. His paltry hitting has come with a .307 BABIP, no less. At age 36, are witnessing the beginning of a steep decline for him? If you were the Mets, would you prioritize getting a bat like Jay Bruce over a shortstop?
(mattstupp from NYC)
The decline already started prior to this year but was masked somewhat by Coors. The Mets probably should get any kind of hitter they can get. The problem with getting Bruce over an infield is that in addition to a bat they need some stability on offense. Something to keep in mind is that the Mets schedule in July is brutal. There are no gimmies on the schedule, and it's possible they put up a 9-16 month in July. If they do that, forget about buying. They might be selling yet again. (Mike Gianella)
2015-01-20 19:30:00 (link to chat)A lot is being made about Jimmy Nelson the past two days with Breen even saying he heard a scout call him "special". What's his upside? Would you trade Michael Cuddyer and Dustin Ackley in dynasty for him for example?
(OceanBalls from Yes)
I'd trade Ackley for him for sure. Cuddyer a closer call, really depends on need/where you are in contention cycle. He's not special for our purposes. (Ben Carsley)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who would you rather have in a redraft league, all things being equal: Michael Cuddyer or Mike Napoli?
(Guancous from Washington DC)
Napoli. Cuddyer ain't gonna hit for a .382 BABIP again, and I think Nap has another 30- homer campaign left in that bat. (Ben Carsley)
2013-12-10 18:00:00 (link to chat)Joey Votto's paucity of RBI was a topic of big discussion last year. What should we expect on the RBI front in 2014 and how would you rank him among 1B in a standard 5x5?
(RMR from Cincinnati)
Hey RMR.

All of this depends on whether or not the Reds put someone decent in front of him in the lineup. Votto was virtually the same as he ever was but suffered through Todd Frazier's miserable OPS and a wounded Brandon Phillips most of the year. If Billy Hamilton can get on base at a semi-decent clip/stick, then Votto's RBI opportunities instantly go up. I'm an unashamed, unapologetic Votto lover. In my mixed valuations last year, only Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Davis, and Michael Cuddyer ranked higher at 1B (not including any non-OF who were 1B eligible). If Miguel Cabrera isn't 1B eligible in your league on Opening Day, Votto's 3rd behind Goldy and Davis. Some of this is just the weakness of the position, some of it is that runs count - and Votto's walks lead to runs - but some of it is that I like valuing skills over stats, particularly since even in a "down" year Votto was still a Top 25 mixed league hitter. I might even put Votto ahead of Davis when I actually sit down and rank these guys in February. (Mike Gianella)
2012-12-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any updates on James Darnell's recovery? If Gyorky is at 2B and Forsythe can work at SS, where does Darnell fit?
(Jon KK from Elkhart, IN)
I'm not sure when Darnell is due to return. As for where he fits in, he is a passable third baseman who can't play anywhere else on the infield. His best-case scenario is Michael Cuddyer's career, but there's a good chance he ends up being a right-handed bat off the bench (sort of like Jesus Guzman), or less. (Geoff Young)
2012-05-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Where do you sit on this trade Adam Dunn, Mark Trumbo, and Brandon McCarthy for Michael Cuddyer and Martin Prado?
(Jerome from T Hills)
I'll take the first side. (Paul Sporer)
2012-03-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your top undervalued targets for NL only leagues this year?
(Senior from Lost in my mind)
Just had LABR NL this weekend, so I've got a bunch. Not all went for as low as I wanted, but how about: Michael Cuddyer, Lucas Duda, Jon Jay, Marlon Byrd, John Mayberry, Jose Altuve, Ryan Ludwick, Tyler Greene. None are sure things, obviously, but that's the nature of undervalued targets. In general, I think these guys will come cheaper than I'd pay for them (although that wasn't the case for Cuddyer, Duda, Mayberry, Byrd, and Altuve this weekend in a tough LABR crowd). (Derek Carty)
2011-06-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Michael Cuddyer playing over his head because it is a contract year, or is he one of those players who benefits from playing different positions?
(jhardman from Apex, NC)
Well, I've yet to see a study that shows contract years to have a real impact on performance, but I don't think playing different positions really helps a guy either. That said, I don't Cuddyer's performance is all that unsustainable. Maybe a tick too much power and a bit too much speed, but that's about it. Watch what happens as the trade deadline approaches, though. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cuddyer traded, potentially opening up more playing time for a guy like Ben Revere. That could actually benefit Cuddyer's value, though, moving out of the lowest-scoring offense in the league, out of that park, and potentially to the easier league. (Derek Carty)
2010-06-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)It's slowly dawning on me that Michael Cuddyer's .520 slugging in 2009 was a mirage. Any reason to think otherwise?
(Tom from twin cities)
Well, entering 2009 his career OBP/SLG was .344/.441. And then he went out and got up to .356/.520. I don't know if he's ever going to get back to .500+ but it's weird... I suppose I anchored him with regards to last year because I could have sworn he was always powerful. What's really interesting is this: career up to 2009: .344/.441. 2010: .341/.444. (Eric Seidman)
2009-07-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5654271 Cuddyer was tagged out with his foot on home plate.
(birkem3 from Dayton, OH)
I'll look at the clip after I get done with the chat.

BTW: I predict that Michael Cuddyer will one day work on ESPN. Frankly, he could start tomorrow and be better than John Kruk -- and thatisn't necessarily a dig against Kruk. Cuddyer is a funny, well-spoken dude. (David Laurila)
2008-12-05 14:00:00 (link to chat)Has Ron Gardenhire screwed the Twins? He came out and said that his outfield is Denard Span, Carlos Gomez, and Michael Cuddyer, and that there is no room for Delmon Young in it. That really improves the team's leverage in trade discussions. I'm also interested in your opinion on Young. In Minnesota, it seems like most people hate him (for example, when he didn't get angry about Gardenhire's comments, many are saying that he just doesn't care about anything), but how about an outsider's view?
(russadams from Minnesota)
Ideally you'd certainly like your manager to shut his pie hole about such things, but if it's in the news it was probably being whispered somewhere anyway.

I honestly have no idea what to make of Young yet, beyond the fact that his plate discipline and power are a lot further off than originally thought, and that he's Blind Wily Mo Pena bad in the outfield. Still, he's going on 23 and has the raw tools that made him a top prospect, if perhaps a makeup that's something of a negative. I don't think he's worth dumping for the sake of dumping if I'm the Twins unless he's a truly noxious presence.

Two more and then I've got to run... (Jay Jaffe)

2008-09-30 16:30:00Twins/White Sox Play-In GameIf you have to try and score Michael Cuddyer on a fly ball 50 feet behind second base, your offense isn't very good.

Terrible job by the Twins. Just terrible. Remember, it was the top of the fifth yesterday when the Tigers wasted their chance to break the game open. This is almost identical. (Joe Sheehan)
