2017-06-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)The Brewers outfield is getting pretty crowded. Does Brinson stick this year? Does Braun get traded once he is healthy? Does Ben Oglivie come out of retirement?
(Buddy from Peoria, IL)
I think he probably goes up and down a little this year depending on the health of Villar and Braun, but he'll be up for good soon enough. I'm hoping they bring Geoff Jenkins back. (Craig Goldstein)
2009-10-07 14:30:00 (link to chat)How is it possible that Jason Werth's first full season is at age 30? I know he lost a couple of years to a wrist injury, but it's still a crime.
(Christopher from Nashville)
Werth made it through last year more or less unscathed, too, but he was platooning with Geoff Jenkins for part of the year until the latter got hurt. The guy's a bit fragile, but he's really developed into a top-notch player. I wish the Dodgers hadn't given up on him, though I don't know where he'd fit in that outfield. (Jay Jaffe)
2008-10-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Why does Joe Torre seem to always get a pass from the mainstream media? His bullpen usage was terrible and he got out-managed by Manual last night, especially when Manual forced Torre to burn a lefty arm when Geoff Jenkins was sent up to pinch-hit. Would Torre have used a lefty, if available, in the Stairs situation or would have persisted in using Broxton?
(jrobs7777 from Philadelphia)
It's actually comparable to what Torre did in Game Two, burning Beimel in the third inning. He didn't pitch well then. I think once Broxton was in, he was in, but I kind of question playing matchups with Geoff Jenkins, who really only goes from suck to suck' in that situation. Torre using the two lefties for four batters in the sixth is where he lost me. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-07-25 14:00:00 (link to chat)Adam Lind has been raking lately...can he keep it up?
(uptick from St. Louis, MO)
Yes. He's Bobby Higginson or Geoff Jenkins with less defense. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-01-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)What can the Phillies expect out of their revamped outfield? Particularly, how productive does Pecota think the Werth/Jenkins two-headed monster will be?
(Will from New Orleans)
Y'know, it probably made sense for them to get Shane Victorino out of an outfield corner if they were going to play him every day, so there are some gains on the basis of efficiency there, but I can't think of a less inspired free agent acquisition than Geoff Jenkins. I would rather have just entrusted the job to Werth and perhaps signed a Cliff Floyd type as a plan B. (Nate Silver)

2009-10-21 17:00:00NLCS Game 5Skeptic (LA, Toronto): In many ways, isn't Werth in the ideal situation (park, handedness in that line-up, late peaking...)? He's 30 now. Will have a nice run like Ibanez, or have a three year peak and then turn into Geoff Jenkins?

There's something to what you say, although I think Werth's better selectivity and defensive abilities will keep him valuable for longer. (Steven Goldman)
2009-10-21 17:00:00NLCS Game 5It's hard to believe the Dodgers released Werth (who Jim Tracy felt was nothing more than a bench player) and that the Phillies were playing Geoff Jenkins ahead of him at the start of last season. (John Perrotto)
