2014-09-29 14:00:00 (link to chat)I'm in a 20 team dynasty league. We're allowed to protect 20 players from our 25 man roster yearly. I can protect only two of the following relievers, Brad Ziegler, Shae Simmons, Kevin Quackenbush, John Holdzkom, Hunter Strickland, Jeremy Affeldt, and RJ Alvarez. Which should I keep for next year?
(John from MD)
Again, I'd recommend shooting this one at our fantasy guys in their next chats, but I'd go with Quackenbush and Strickland. (Daniel Rathman)
2014-09-29 14:00:00 (link to chat)Wrathman, with the rage f a thousand burning hot suns!
(Gibbers from NY)
The problem is i don't rage nearly enough for this to happen. Except when Jeremy Affeldt is throwing scuds or the Packers defense is getting shredded. Which, I suppose, is actually quite common. Maybe it fits after all. (Daniel Rathman)
2010-10-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Joe Posnanski wrote a great column a few years ago about Jeremy Affeldt and how he went from great SP prospect to middling middle reliever. I can't find the column online now, but I think of it every time I see Joba. Sad.
(DrManhattan from NYC)
When I look at Joba, I think of guys from my youth like Ted Power and Neil Allen, pitchers who were sometimes pretty successful but never great, and spent their entire careers being jerked from the pen to the rotation because no one could ever decide what they really were. (Steven Goldman)
2010-03-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Shawn!! So, the Giants just locked up two relievers for 2 or 3 more years... dumb move? (specially with Jeremy Affeldt)
(Guillermo from Montevideo)
The Affeldt deal was pretty unnecessary. He's a decent enough guy to have around, but you can find guys just as good for a hell of a lot less. I have less of a problem with the idea of extending Wilson, but at the price they ended up giving him, I don't really see the benefit of doing it now -- they basically gave him the max he could get through arbitration the next two years.

Let's put this another way: with Cain's extension, the Giants are looking at spending $60m just on their top three starters in 2012. Such is life, with the Zito deal. But given that, spending an extra $10m+ on relievers (who are very unpredictable year-to-year) is too risky for my tastes. (Shawn Hoffman)

More ridiculous is Chase Utley falling out of the top five. (Eric Seidman)
