2021-06-30 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thanks for taking the question Kevin. Can you please give me your take and a MLB player comp for Phillies OF prospect Johan Rojas? Looks uber-athletic to me as I watch his actions on the field. (Marcus from Tampa) | I'm still not Kevin, much to many people's chagrin. Rojas has been on our radar for a while now. I recall Jeffrey Paternostro really liking him in Williamsport in 2019. He's very athletic and the defense should be quite good. I'd have some concerns offensively depending on how/if he fills out. He's pretty slight and I'd be worried about how well the offense can actually play given that. The ball jumps off his bat given the frame, but that could have its limitations. Jeff notes that he worries less about the pop and more about his approach, and he's better at prospect eval than I am, so there you go.
I'm going to avoid a comp because I think they tend to be more of a disservice than a service. (Craig Goldstein) |
2021-04-30 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How about giving me some odds for the Philadelphia Derby in center field? Or do we just send all of the entrants to the glue factory? (Buff from Colorado) | It is grim, but I tend to think the latter there. No Philly CF is rosterable in fantasy outside of deep leagues (800+, maybe 1000+, players). Just bide your time until Johan Rojas arrives (he is the real deal). (Jesse Roche) |
2020-12-11 12:00:00 (link to chat) | What organization would you most want Johan Rojas end up with when Dombrowski trades him? (Johan Fantasy from Dombrowski's mind) | My default setting when any interesting outfield prospect comes up in this context is to think of Cleveland, but that just might be from listening to Mark Barry every week. I know they are trying to build a new stadium but he'd be a fun tiny righty power bat in that Toronto lineup. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2020-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Give me 5 prospects that have potential to breakout the way Julio Rodriguez, Marco Luciano, Kristian Robinson, etc did... thanks in advance! (Frankie from NY NY) | Those three were highly regarded J2 signees, so, in a similar vein, I'd say Alexfri Planez and Johan Rojas from the 2017 class; Noelvi Marte, Orelvis Martinez, Misael Urbina, Luis Matos, and Jeferson Espinal from the 2018 class; and Jasson Dominguez, Erick Pena, Robert Puason, Luis Rodriguez, Maximo Acosta, Reginald Preciado, Bayron Lora, and Hedbert Perez from the 2019 class. 2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Jesse. Thanks for all of your work on BP! I'm loving reading it. Where do you have Jeffrey's favorite (Johan Rojas) in your dynasty fantasy prospect list? (JD from TN) | Thanks, JD! Johan Rojas is an outfield prospect for the Phillies. I have yet to finalize my deeper rankings, but Rojas falls around the 250 range. He has tantalizing power/speed upside and impressed stateside (GCL/NYP) at just 18 years old. (Jesse Roche) |
2019-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Recently I've read reports that Johan Rojas (PHI) has Victor Robles like potential. Any truth to these? (Mark from Maryland) | I spent a lot of time on the most recent episode of TINO talking about Rojas, and I've spent more time talking to Jeffrey Paternostro who saw him. I am very into Johan Rojas. I think that's really overstating the case. Perhaps defensively (which is a high compliment), but offensively Robles had a better hit tool even at the time. Could some combination of Rojas overshooting his projection and Robles underperforming mean they end up similarly? I suppose, but I don't think that's the concept behind the report you heard and I'd disagree substantially with that as a comp. (Craig Goldstein) |
2019-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Trying to find the next big thing in the lower minors like Wander Franco, Marco Luciano, Julio Rodriguez. Any under the radar guys you think can make huge jumps that aren't well known? (Jim from Halifax) | Maybe someone like Noelvi Marte, if you're not looking at the current J2 class. I'm currently on Ezequiel Duran, who's an interesting second-base prospect with the Yankees. We talked about Johan Rojas on TINO recently, though he doesn't have the upside of guys like Franco, Luciano, or Rodriguez. (JP Breen) |
