2020-08-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Jeff, thank you for taking my question. I look forward to these chat sessions. What are your thoughts on Brayan Rocchio, MI, Cleveland? Does he have the hit tool to stick as a long term starter? He appears to have some speed but wondered more about the bat at the Major League level. Thanks again, Mike!
(meswan from Texas)
Short answer: Yes Long answer: Well as sure as we can be about an 18-year old in the Penn League. He doesn't have to hit a lot because the glove is good, and it may not be an impact offensive profile overall, but there should be enough stick to be an everyday shortstop. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2020-07-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)For those of us in dynasty leagues, the lack of a minor league season is presenting a number of challenges and questions. How should we value prospects that aren't on the 60-man roster? How should we value future draft picks - is the 2021 draft going to be deeper because of the shortened 2020 draft?
(Paul from Dallas)
I think there are some very specific instances where you can read something into it, but even then the advice I have is not to take too much out of inclusion or not. Kristian Robinson isn't on the D'Backs' player pool because he was already in Phoenix after being unable to go back to the Bahamas. There are all sorts of weird situations like that, so it's not worth getting too wrapped up. That said, in some cases like where Cleveland brought Aaron Bracho in but not Brayan Rocchio...maybe that's worth investigating (but not judging outright). (Craig Goldstein)
2020-04-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Craig, thanks for taking your time to respond to my question. I thoroughly enjoy the BP chat sessions!! What are your thoughts, from a Dynasty perspective, on the tandem of Brayan Rocchio & Aaron Bracho. Do they appear to be a solid long term solution up the middle for Cleveland and my Dynasty team? Or do you think they may not have that kind of staying power or other? Hope you have a great Easter!
(meswan from Texas)
Thanks for reading them! I actually think they're better IRL prospects than fantasy. The advanced skills from a guy like Rocchio, at his age, are great, but I question how much power can come from the frame and how much development is realistically ahead of him because of it. (Craig Goldstein)
2020-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which lotto ticket teenager is the best add as my final prospect: Maximo Acosta, Misael Urbina, Brayan Rocchio, or Keoni Cavaco?
(Alex from Austin)
Rocchio, though Acosta has more upside and big helium (Jesse Roche)
2019-11-01 12:00:00 (link to chat)What do you know about the Indians' Brayan Rocchio? He started lifting the ball with Mahoning Valley this summer, but the avg took a dip.
(Not Evan from Not Cleveland)
Spring saw him and liked the overall swing, approach, and hand-eye, so the raw tools are all there. I wouldn't worry too much about his batting average given the aggressive assignment. He's also one of the better defenders in the minors at 18 so there's a lot to like here. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-09-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)How would you assess Brayan Rocchio's season? He came into the year with a lot of hype in some circles as a potential big riser.
(Matt from IL)
I think Spring's report from earlier this Summer is pretty spot on. He's very advanced but it's more polish than big offensive tools. His performance in the NYPL is good given his age and experience. I think his stock is up some, but it's more of a glove-first profile with a longer lead time on the bat. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)How has this season changed your outlook on Brayan Rocchio?
(Jay from Washington, DC)
It hasn't moved the needle much for me. He's still a very gifted hitter, and he's not dealing with massive strikeout numbers or anything of that sort. He'll be more hit over power, for me, so his fantasy value won't be massive unless he shows a willingness to steal bases a lot more than he has. But he's a better real-life prospect than fantasy prospect, for my money. For now. (JP Breen)
2019-07-31 12:00:00 (link to chat)Any chance you can tell me about two low-level Cleveland prospects in Aaron Bracho & Brayan Rocchio?
(Chris from The Library)
Lucky for you, Spring Marie Cullen just wrote up Rocchio for us in a
recent Ten Pack. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat)Brayan Rocchio starting the season in the NY Penn league I imagine ,or is there an injury concern we have'nt heard about ? cheers
(boatman44 from Liverpool)
I would assume he and Valera both start there, and yeah I've looked at the Mahoning Valley schedule a few times. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-06-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)This Year's Wander Franco? Who jumps up in the rankings?
(Ben from Chicago )
I polled some BP personalities who know way, way more about this than I do at this point, and the names I got probably won't surprise you: Kristian Robinson, George Valera, Alec Thomas. I got Everson Pereira and Brayan Rocchio as sleepers. In terms of two dudes I like, go with Julio Rodriguez and Marco Luciano. Also, look at what Jaren Durran is doing! The real answer, of course, is no one, but that's boring. (Ben Carsley)
2019-04-19 18:00:00 (link to chat)Besides Wander Franco... Who would you top 5 A-ball or lower prospects be... looking to target some in my dynasty league.
(Marcus from Toronto)
Top 5? I'm not much of a ranker. I'm more of a grouper. Especially at the lower levels there is so much variance. I like Mets' SS Ronny Mauricio, Indians' MI Brayan Rocchio, Cleveland pitcher Luis Oviedo, Pirates' OF Lolo Sanchez, Brewers' MI Felix Valerio and Yankees' pitcher Roansy Contreras. (Scott Delp)
2019-04-26 16:00:00 (link to chat)Who is this season's Wander Franco - someone that will jump up the rankings by the end of the season?
(Eric from NYC)
I think Yordan Alvarez could've been a good answer for this one, but the way he's raking, he might be in Houston before long. I like Tirso Ornelas a lot, and I wish Julio Rodriguez hadn't already gotten hurt, because I could see him flying up lists pretty quickly. Let's round this one out with Brayan Rocchio, because I'm nothing if not a huge homer. (Mark Barry)
2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat)Brayan Rocchio have a shot to be a big riser in a year or two?
(Get rid of the from mascot, Cleveland)
He sure does, but just not sure how much ultimate upside he has. -BS (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre)
