2021-01-21 12:00:00 (link to chat)So, who did really pop at the alternative camps other than Busch and hedbert perez?
(Quincy from Ames)
Abrams and Witt, although it doesn't show up as a big ordinal jump, 25ish to firmly top ten is a larger projection gap than some bigger ones further down the list. Quinn Priester is going to be a just missed for us but you can add him in. Evan Carter for the Rangers I'll be writing about as a potential 2022 Top 101 guy in the Ten Pack on Monday. If you want to count LIDOM here, Jeremy Pena probably moved a few extra spots off his performance there. I do hesitate to frame it as "popping" since we don't really know what we have here until we see it over the long haul in games. But it's the actionable information we have this year. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2021-01-08 12:00:00 (link to chat)Do winter league performances affect your outlook on players?
(ari blum from ny)
Not usually, except for specific situations/instances (x is healthy now, y has a new pitch). Much like the AFL, most years we already have a season's worth of live looks and other info. This year, we've paid more attention to stuff like instructs and offseason leagues, but Jeremy Pena is really the only prospect that I think has moved a little off his actual winter ball performance. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-10-18 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who surprised you the most out in Arizona?
(Adam from Austin, Texas)
Geraldo Perdomo surprised me a lot, showing quality defense and quality feel to hit from both sides of the plate. Jeremy Pena also surprised me with his defense and abilities at the plate. Pitching wise Sam Delaplane showed me why he had such a high K rate in the minor leagues thus far. I wasn't able to see Spencer Howard during the regular season because of his injuries but he sure looked the part in Arizona. (Steve Givarz)
