2022-01-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)You're starting a team from scratch. Who would take first, second and third among Shane Baz, Oneil Cruz and Jarred Kelenic, and why? Thank you for all you do.
(Diogo J from Liverpool, England)
Maaaaaaaaan, I think I'll just go with our rankings and take Baz here. I know he's a pitcher but he feels a bit less volatile than Cruz, and while I think Kelenic will be fine long term, it's tough to take a corner outfielder that struggled as badly as he did in the majors against the other two options (with the caveat that the others haven't really had a chance to fail in MLB). (Top 101 chat w/Jeffrey Paternostro)
2021-04-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any thoughts on Taylor Trammell? He made the roster and had a good spring; just wondering if he's done anything that might give reason to think he'll hold these gains, especially with Julio Rodriguez and Jarred Kelenic about to hit the scene...
(Not BC from Fort Myers, FL)
Jeffrey wrote up his Call-Up article and I don't think I'm going to have anything more nuanced than that. There are definitely swing changes from his days in Cincinnati, and I think they're for the better. I am absolutely rooting for him to produce enough to stay up immediately because I think he's great for baseball and has an absolute sense for the moment, flare for the dramatic, etc. (Craig Goldstein)
2021-03-03 12:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think the delayed minor-league season means for top prospects on the verge? Are players like Wander Franco more likely to play in the majors right away since there's no immediate alternative?
(Jim from Wisconsin)
I suspect those teams playing service time games will keep playing service time games. These prospects are still going to get alternate site time, so coaches can work with them and they'll get high-level reps. Franco was probably an unlikely candidate for an early-season call-up anyway, as good as he is, but do I think the Mariners will suddenly promote Jarred Kelenic because they can't get him reps in real minor league games? I do not. (Darius Austin)
2021-02-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are the best prospects that will get a look in 2021?
(Tyler from Vancouver)
Many will get a look, some earlier than others. Obviously, players who debuted last year will be back, including Nick Madrigal, Dylan Carlson, Sixto Sanchez, Randy Arozarena, Ian Anderson, Ryan Mountcastle, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Daulton Varsho, etc. Another top-prospect early 2021 debut likely is Andrew Vaughn. Otherwise, our ETAs should help guide the search for potential 2021 impact players, though some likely will not debut until well after the All-Star break (Wander Franco, Jarred Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez, etc.). (Jesse Roche)
2020-12-04 12:00:00 (link to chat)Jarred Kelenic - clearly the 2nd best prospect in baseball or maybe the best?
(dtothew from Atlanta)
Probably the second best prospect in his own org. He's in the discussion for top five overall though. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2020-09-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Have you heard of any buzz from the alternative camps on prospects?
(Quincy from Ames)
You might not believe this, but it sounds like Jarred Kelenic is very good. Also keep an eye on Tyler Freeman. (Mark Barry)
2020-08-14 14:00:00 (link to chat)Dynasty League: 25 man MiLB squad. Competing team: wants (now) arms for title run. 2 offers in place. Bieber for Franco Jesus Lizard and May for Kelenic and Barco. Either/Both fair? Which side you got?
(mjquart from Milwaukee)
So the offers are:

1. Shane Bieber for Wander Franco
2. Jesus Luzardo and Dustin May for Jarred Kelenic and Hunter Barco (I assume)

I prefer Bieber to Franco, though that likely changes by this time next year.

I prefer Kelenic by a hair to Luzardo/May. (Jesse Roche)
2020-05-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)When do you see Brandon Marsh coming up? How do you think he compares to Carlson, Monte Harrison, kelenic, Rodriguez etc.
(Tommy from LA)
I think Marsh arrives in 2021 at this point. He likely begins the season back in Double-A, though he should move to Triple-A pretty quickly (as soon as Jo Adell moves on to the majors). I prefer all those outfielders (except Harrison) to Marsh (Harrison really should not be part of this conversation). I view Marsh as a potential 5+/5/5+ bat, which is not too dissimilar from Dylan Carlson (5+/5+/5). Both Julio Rodriguez and Jarred Kelenic are next level in tools. At peak, I think Marsh could hit around .275/.350/.450/20/15, give or take, which is a stones throw from Carlson (.280/.360/.490/25/10). I just think he carries a bit more risk given his injury history, proximity, and production. We do really like Marsh here at BP. (Jesse Roche)
2020-03-31 12:00:00 (link to chat)Zac Veen reminds me a lot of Jarred Kelenic as a prospect. Does that comp have legs to you? How would you view Veen as a dynasty asset?
(Mike from Phoenix)
Keanan saw him recently and comped him to Riley Greene. I'd say Kelenic was more presently physical and more likely to stick in CF at the time of the draft. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2020-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Dynasty draft. Rank: Kelenek, J Rodriguez, Luciano, Abrams, Carlson?
(mjquart from Milwaukee)

2019-05-20 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is Jarred Kelenic gonna make me wanna kill myself in 3 years
(Dany from NY)
Look it’s not gonna make it that much worse than just being a Mets fan, like percentage wise (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-05-01 12:00:00 (link to chat)Would you rather have Jarred Kelenic or Ronny Mauricio?
(Gary from NY)
Kelenic was a fair bit higher preseason, and nothing has really changed there. Both's stocks are up some. Although based on the gchats I got from Jarrett on Kelenic last night the gap may be widening. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-11-29 23:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on prospects Jarred Kelenic and Luis Patino?
(RobertK from Los Angeles)
See the Padres list for Patino, and Kelenic...well, he's apparently more popular with the Seattle front office than the new decision-makers in Queens, for one. I'm a fan, to the degree that I've never had a live look. He looks like a nice, well-rounded player from afar, and there are a lot of ingredients there that could come together and turn him into a really valuable player, potentially even a monster. He's young and extremely projectable, tools across the board. Everyone will learn a lot about him this year regardless of what franchise he plays his games for. (Wilson Karaman)
2018-11-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)how do you pronounce Jarred Kelenic? Normal Jared, KELL-eh-nick?
(boss baby from seattle)
The Elizabethton PA guy had it as Kehl-LEN-ick, your mileage may vary. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-11-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Jarred Kelenic more Michael Conforto or Alex Ochoa?
(Doug from MT)
That's uh, a wide range. I have a free eyewitness up on him, and it's one of I believe only two public reports on him as a pro.
