2021-04-30 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Jesse,
Which of Mize Manning and Skubal will you think have a better 2022 and who will have the better long term stats? (John from Boston) | I will forever by a proponent of Casey Mize. The only thing holding him back from taking a big step forward is his fastball, which has improved this year. Manning has a nice two-pitch mix, but his changeup remains a work in progress, and there are concerns about the effectiveness of his fastball at the big-league level. Skubal still lacks an out pitch to support his plus or better fastball. His development of a splitter to pair with his average-to-above slider has not faired well thus far. (Jesse Roche) |
2020-09-16 13:00:00 (link to chat) | When my keeper league's rookie draft rolls around in February, I'm going to have a choice between Casey Mize and Sixto Sanchez. Who is better suited for long-term success? (Thank you for all you do, by the way.) (Flaming Moe from Springfield, USA) | I honestly think I'd take Sixto. There is some injury potential there but as Jeffrey likes to say "he's a pitcher" and it applies to both guys. I might be swayed by a pretty small major-league sample but damn if it isn't impressive.
And hey, our pleasure! I love talking some baseball with you all and hopefully you enjoy reading our work! (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you see Mize and Skubal both ending the 2020 season in the Tigers rotation? (Bubic Hair from In your soup) | Maybe, but I would not expect either Casey Mize or Tarik Skubal to debut in 2020, especially given the shortened season. Further, the Tigers will not be in contention and any promotion will start the service time clock. In short, it would not be a wise move to call either arm up in 2020, but it is still possible. 2020-02-28 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Give me the names of top prospects who are going to come up this year? (Charlie from Atlanta) | The list is extensive. Here are top-50 prospects who likely will be in the majors at some point in 2020: Jo Adell, Gavin Lux, Luis Robert, MacKenzie Gore, Carter Kieboom, Dylan Carlson, Nick Madrigal, Jesus Luzardo, Dustin May, Brendan Rodgers, Nate Pearson, Casey Mize, Forrest Whitley, Alec Bohm, Cristian Pache, Ryan Mountcastle, Spencer Howard, and Matt Manning. There are obviously others, and even more who will surprise, but I'd wager these prospects will arrive at some point. (Jesse Roche) |
2019-10-04 14:15:00 (link to chat) | Anything at all for Tigers fans to look forward to next year? (Buddy from Peoria, IL) | If Casey Mize is healthy, there is that. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2019-09-27 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Is concern over Casey Mize's health a good reason to trade him in a dynasty league or just an overreaction? (Bruce from Atlantic City) | Depends on the deal. But I wouldn't be opposed to selling high if you could get a bat even a prospect tier below him on talent. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2019-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Are there any players at the upper levels of the Tigers' system that can be impactful on the ML roster in 2020/2021? The AAA roster still has Candelario and Stewart, but there's Joey Morgan, Frank Schwindel (27yo, I know), and Daz Cameron among the hitters. The injured Beau Burrows is the only pitcher I could foresee if I squint hard enough. AA doesn't seem much better. Any hope for Tiger fans? (ironcityguys from urban area) | Good question. Not much to be excited about a Tigers fan unfortunately. Wouldn't mind seeing Schwindel soon. Cameron's past season, was... un-encouraging to say the least.
You got Casey Mize who is legit, but... yeah, not much to look forward to at the moment IMO. Sorry! (Tyler Oringer) |
2019-07-11 23:00:00 (link to chat) | We shouldn't worry about Casey Mize's first 2/3 IP back from injury right? ...RIGHT?! (Alex from Austin) | He's another guy we twisted a bit on where to slot him, as there's been injury concern there for a minute now. The talent's the talent, though, and no, 2/3 of an inning does not a career make (most of the time, hopefully). I'll also use this opportunity to plug Spring's muy bueno piece on Mize from May: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/49736/what-like-its-hard-casey-mize-makes-an-entrance-at-double-a/ (Wilson Karaman) |
2019-07-09 12:00:00 (link to chat) | What odds do you give for these prospects to debut THIS season: Jo Adell, Luis Robert, Casey Mize, Dustin May, Bo Bichette, Gavin Lux. (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | Best bets are probably Bichette as a September call up and May as a utility arm for the stretch run/playoffs. I imagine the Tigers are going to be very cautious with Mize after the shoulder issue. Robert and Lux could hypothetically be an injury away at some point though. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
