2022-01-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)So, for some reason I remember the post-trade deadline episode of For All You Kids Out There, in which you guys sort of mock the Mets for thinking that their offer for José Berríos stacked up to the Blue Jays'. Basically, the sense I got at the time was that the Mets seemed to think Ronny Mauricio was just as good (if not better) a prospect as Austin Martin, and you guys did not. With the caveat that I may have misunderstood/misremembered your analysis, I was just wondering if you could give a little insight into what went into ranking Mauricio/Martin back-to-back (I don't know Martin's body of work all too well, but I guess I expected him to be a little higher and Mauricio a little lower).
(officialstankman from Southold, NY)
Yeah, I don't think any of us are super comfortable with the Mauricio ranking, but the back half of the list was a bit weaker than past year (for a couple different reasons I think). I think the larger issue with the Berrios trade is other teams (and yeah probably the Twins although I didn't outright ask) don't think he's as good as Martin, or at least not as valuable a trade piece when the deal was made. I'd expect Mauricio to have a fairly wide range of opinions based on how teachable you think the approach and swing decision issues are and to a lesser extent how model-heavy you are. (TrickDaddy14 from ForDaKids)
George Valera (157)
Brennen Davis (187)
Jordan Groshans (202)
Ronny Mauricio (210)
Orelvis Martinez (294) (Jesse Roche)
2020-04-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)In a deep dynasty league, I was offered a huge package of Adell, Kelenic, Gore, Waters, Luzardo, Ronny Mauricio and Joey Bart for my Xander Bogarts. I hadn't planned on trading Bogarts but this is tempting. Should I do it?
(Scott from San Diego)
that's an easy yes for me (Craig Goldstein)

(Greg from Ohio)
The owner who got Mauricio, easy. (Jesse Roche)
2019-10-04 14:15:00 (link to chat)Sad question: what is the % chance Brodie trades Ronny Mauricio this season? I think it is close to 50%
(Riley from NJ)
I suspect they will try to foist Vientos or Gimenez off first, but maybe 1 in 4 or so. BVW definitely has a weird splash move in him this offseason, what form it takes, I do not even want to hazard a guess. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-07-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Please rank for dynasty purposes: Julio Rodriguez, Kristian Robinson, Marco Luciano, Jasson Dominguez, Ronny Mauricio, George Valera. Thank you!
(Gerald from Bama)
Look, we can put these guys in an order now that's probably different next week or in the next hour because they're generally of the same ilk. Uber talented, far from the majors, high tools, with a billion different paths to success or failure. It's hubris.

Also Ben and Bret did it already: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/article/51490/the-midseason-top-50-dynasty-prospects/ (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat)Does Ronny Mauricio have a shot at the midseason list?
(Bobby Shmurda from New York)
He's on the long list and will get strong consideration. I'd expect him to show up in the just missed section, but this draft is gonna get torn up a hundred times over the next month. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-05-01 12:00:00 (link to chat)Would you rather have Jarred Kelenic or Ronny Mauricio?
(Gary from NY)
Kelenic was a fair bit higher preseason, and nothing has really changed there. Both's stocks are up some. Although based on the gchats I got from Jarrett on Kelenic last night the gap may be widening. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-04-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who is this year's Acuna or Wander Franco - Prospect who comes out of no where to jump up in the rankings?
(Aaron from ATL)
Wouldn't we all like to know? Kristian Robinson? Ronny Mauricio? Marco Luciano? D'Shawn Knowles? George Valera? Antonio Cabello?

Franco was the top international prospect so it kinda depends on your definition of "out of nowhere" (Craig Goldstein)
2019-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of power ceiling does Ronny Mauricio have? He's advanced for someone his age and seems to have a nice hit tool. Will the power come with maturation, or is the swing not geared for it?
(jgaztambide from Louisville)
Mauricio is a popular name, and I defer to our Prospect Lead Jeffrey Paternostro on all things Mets, so I asked him:

"He’s basically trying to hold his own right now and sacrificing pop for bat control, but it’s plus raw with loft when he zones one or in BP. He’s also got a thicker lower half than upper and I’d expect him to get stronger. This was a very aggressive assignment for him and I expect some struggles honestly but the early reports have been really good." (Craig Goldstein)
2019-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Happy Hump Day! I’m seeking 5 of your best low-level bets to become stars... The Ronny Mauricio’s of the world. Who you got?
(Roger from Baltimore)
Speaking of Mauricio, we're always looking for our next fix, huh? Just to throw some names out there, I like Jhon Torres, George Valera, D'Shawn Knowles, Shervyen Newton, and Sherten Apostel. I don't know if they're my "best bets" but definitely guys I'm following. If you want a fun name to track, try Darling Florentino. He's a baby and in full-season, so struggling but a toolsy 3B with flashes of power and hit. Plus his name is Darling Florentino. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-04-19 18:00:00 (link to chat)Besides Wander Franco... Who would you top 5 A-ball or lower prospects be... looking to target some in my dynasty league.
(Marcus from Toronto)
Top 5? I'm not much of a ranker. I'm more of a grouper. Especially at the lower levels there is so much variance. I like Mets' SS Ronny Mauricio, Indians' MI Brayan Rocchio, Cleveland pitcher Luis Oviedo, Pirates' OF Lolo Sanchez, Brewers' MI Felix Valerio and Yankees' pitcher Roansy Contreras. (Scott Delp)
2019-04-26 16:00:00 (link to chat)Ronny Mauricio, upside to be a top 10 prospect? Next Big Thing?
(Colin from NY)
Top 10 is probably pushing it, but you could make the arugment for top 50 if the power comes around and it doesn't stunt his ability to make contact. (Mark Barry)
2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat)What’s the upside of Ronny Mauricio? Can he be Tatis without the steals?
(Chad from Trenton)
With a little less OBP, sure. Of course he's years away from getting there. -BS (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre)
2018-12-06 20:00:00 (link to chat)Assuming the decision has been made to not sign a FA catcher and Realmunto was the priority, what is YOUR best offer? Does it include any of the controllable pieces on the ML roster?
(Jon from NJ)
I would try to build a trade around Ronny Mauricio and David Peterson, and expect the Marlins to tell me to pound sand. I would not trade Nimmo, Conforto, McNeil, or Rosario.

My answer might be different if Grandal and to a lesser extent Ramos weren't available as free agents, mind you. (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-11-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)It seems to me that adding Kelenic to a deal for Cano is too much of a price to pay to allow the Mets to shed salary and obtain Edwin Jackson. This is especially true if the Mariners are desperate to unload Cano. If Seattle is insisting on a high ceiling/low minors prospect to dream on, wouldn't someone like Ronny Mauricio make more sense given the Mets' infield prospect depth in the low minors?
(wileecoyote121 from Mamaroneck, NY)
So I think an understated part of this deal is the Mets also really wanted Robinson Cano. Obviously there is leverage with the no-trade but I'm guessing the M's could have walked away at any point and gone to another team and gotten a significantly better return just for Diaz. I don't know how desperate the Mariners actually were. The Mets sure wanted to keep leaking that they were desperate, but how much so, well they run a much tighter ship. Also from the Mariners POV you can't really sell a trade like this without getting one headline prospect piece back. The optics matter. Ultimately I think the Mets just didn't want to walk away from the deal and that included getting Cano for them. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-09-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)A lot to like with Ronny Mauricio?
(Carl from Fresno)
I'd say so, with my usual caveat that there's an awful long time to wait. Switch-hitting shortstops who are already showing power at 17 and with plenty of projection left are definitely likable. (Darius Austin)
2018-09-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Ronny Mauricio? Is he a potential top 100 guy?
(Mets Fan from Yemen)
Born in 2001? My first thought is I feel like I'm 1000 years old.

He can hit from both sides, puts the ball in the air, and could grow into some power. Future won't be at short if he fills out. (Mike Gianella)
2018-07-13 15:00:00 (link to chat)If Ronny Mauricio was in high school, about where would he be projected to be drafted next year? would he be a 1-1 candidate?
(Earl from NY)
A 1-1 high school dude is going to immediately go into the top 50 Mickey Moniak aside. Let's say he's a high risk 60/45 guy (hypothetically, this is not my report) That's like back half of the first round roughly, historically speaking. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-07-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)If you were looking at players like a stock exchange, what short season Dynasty assets do you see as a penny stock with the potential to pay big dividends?
(Steve from NJ)
Excluding 2018 draftees and J2 guys, Wander Franco, D'Shawn Knowles, Kristian Robinson, George Valera, Luis Oviedo, Ronny Mauricio, Roansy Contreras, Mark Vientos, Everson Pereira (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-07-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)Can Peter Alonso have some 40 HR seasons?
(Sean99 from Orland Park)
As you might imagine, Peter Alonso is the most popular topic in the queue tonight. (The second most is Ronny Mauricio for some reason.)

40 homers is a lot. Even with the new ball. Five dudes hit 40 homers last year. Alonso probably grades as 70 raw, but I don't think he grades above 60 game power yet, and that's not 40 homers. It's not impossible, but it's a reach goal for him; I think he's going to settle in as more of a well-rounded average/power/walks guy than a guy atop dinger leaderboards. (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-07-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)How do you evaluate GCL players? Is there any point in putting any stock in what a guy like Ronny Mauricio is doing right now?
(Paul from Trenton)
Reports from our Florida guys, and talking to people not on staff

In terms of stats, I mean, listen, it's always better when a dude puts up a good line than when he puts up a bad line. But in general GCL stats aren't terribly meaningful between sample size, mixed quality of competition, and prioritization of development over competition. A kid like Mauricio is basically playing the same games close for the entire baseball year down in the complexes, starting from MILB spring in March until the end of instructs, the GCL is just the 2 1/2 month slice where they keep score them officially enough to put it on Baseball Reference. (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)I dropped Ronny Mauricio this year and one of the smartest owners in the league picked him up. On a scale of 1-10, how much will I regret this in 2023?
(Bailey from MD)
1. You will forget about this because there are many, many, many more things you'll have the opportunity to regret in five years. Also, it's hardly a sure thing that Mauricio will pan out. Don't worry! (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-04-20 12:00:00 (link to chat)It’s way too early for this Ronny Mauricio hype right?
(Lad from TE )
We can wait for his stateside debut, yeah. But it's a business where everyone wants to get their marker down early (I can be guilty of this too, of course). (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-04-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)The Mets successfully pushed Andres Gimenez to full-season ball at 18 - after reading all these gushing reports over Ronny Mauricio, do you think there's any chance he gets the same treatment?
(Phil from Long Island)
They have reps to give in Columbia if they want to do that, they can play Fermin at 2B and he's gotten time at CF, and he's the only meaningful infield prospect there at the moment. Gimenez also didn't get assigned there, he mashed his way there in XST. Same thing applies to Vientos here. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
