2020-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Alexander Ramirez (Mets), Connor Wong, and Peyton Burdick?
(Cameron from Beverly Hills)
Alexander Ramirez is a recent 2019 J2 signing (not to be confused with the 2018 J2 signing of the same name) with an intriguing blend of present speed and projectable power emanating from his 6-foot-3 frame. Connor Wong recently was part of the Mookie Betts trade. A change in organizations actually benefits him a lot as he leaves the crowd of catchers in the Dodgers org. Wong’s combination of athleticism, power, and consistent hard contact is tantalizing. Unfortunately, swing-and-miss is simply part of his game and leads to legitimate concern regarding the efficacy of his hit tool. Peyton Burdick was a 3rd round pick in the 2019 draft. He impressed in the Midwest League (.307/.408/.542) and offers plus raw power with a touch of speed. His hit tool remains questionable, and he had some swing-and-miss (13.3% SwStr) in Low-A. Still, he is a nice mid-round pick in FYPDs this offseason. (Jesse Roche)
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your favorite young catchers after Rutschman for dynasty purposes?

2019-10-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is Connor Wong legit? Does he have enough bat to play a position other than catcher?
(Jerms from Thunder Bay)
We've had a lot of discussions about Wong recently. There are concerns about the approach at the plate more than the glove sticking. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-10-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Did Connor Wong figure anything out this year? He exploded when promoted to AA, albeit with a 30% k rate.
(Frank from Utah)
I checked with the Prospect Team and will update something if I hear back from our Texas guys next week. Wilson saw him in the Cal League where he was much less impressive (offensively), but Will Smith also exploded in Tulsa, so it's possible the Dodgers just have a development plan that gets implemented there rather than in Rancho, where the focus might be elsewhere. The Dodgers catching depth is, to quote Wilson, "just stupid." (Craig Goldstein)
2018-11-29 23:00:00 (link to chat)Since you're a Dodgers fan. Is Connor Wong anything for a dynasty league? What under the radar prospects do you like in their system? Thanks.
(Mark from Los Angeles)
See my earlier answers re: catching prospects in dynasty leagues. I like Wong a decent amount as an IRL prospect. I'm a long-established Edwin Rios fan, I just can't help loving his bat despite its profile warts. Miguel Vargas is a guy I'm excited to see in a longer look at full-season pitching next year. Errol Robinson's a random guy with a weird swing who makes it work and seems to max out his physical talents. Might force his way into big-league utility reps with up-the-middle viability at some point. I always like those kinds of guys. (Wilson Karaman)
2018-09-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Pick a prospect, part 2: Zac Gallen or Connor Wong?

2018-07-30 23:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your favorite CA league prospects who are overlooked by the box score scouts?
(Chansen8895 from San Jose )
He's had an underwhelming year statistically, but I still think Jahmai Jones has the chance to be a really solid player. Connor Wong has gone thru some stretches of looking lost at the dish this year, but I like his physicality and there's some raw material there in the bat. Olivares who I mentioned earlier is one of my requisite "fun tools! maybe it'll work some day!" guys this year. Reggie Lawson's numbers don't jump off the page and he kind of gets lost in the shuffle of that insane Padre system, but he's had a really solid year of growth and development. Fastball's ticked up with better strength and conditioning, curveball's got some yak to it. Can make a run at the rotation or be a potentially lights-out relief arm down the line. And Justin Lawrence in the Colorado system has to be just gross to step in against. Command's gonna be hard for him to master, but boy is his stuff gnarly: https://twitter.com/vocaljavelins/status/1018681746999525376 (Wilson Karaman)
