2020-09-30 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Totally different prospect paths: Would you rather have Jared Walsh or Evan White play 1B for you for the next 4 years? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | I think White will be better with the bat and is a special glove at 1B, but I'm not really clear *how long* it'll take him to do that. He was rushed to the majors. I think I'd still take White, but Walsh can certainly hit. (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-09-16 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I know we're in Small Sample Size Land but how concerned are you of Evan White's 39% K rate and inability to hit the cheese? He has legit exit velos, hard hit & barrels on Statcast but his XBA and XSLG are terrible against all pitches. What does it all mean for his future -- he's 24. Bonus question: Evan White or Lewin Diaz? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | He's been a lot better of late. Obviously that much swing and miss is a concern, but the guy jumped Triple-A and almost certainly wouldn't have been up in the majors without that contract. At the same time that contract was given to him in part because of a belief in his ability to adapt. If you look at his splits from August 17 on, he's down to a 33% strikeout rate. Still not great, but much more palatable. I'm not all in on White, I never was, but I don't think we should make too much of this.
In purely bat terms I might take Diaz but I think White is a better overall player. (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-07-08 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What do you make of Evan White? I'm worried he's going to end up just a newer model of Travis Lee or Darin Erstad. (Louis from Washington) | That seems pretty reasonable to me, although I don't see a reason to worry about it. They weren't bad, and I'm not sure the Mariners would even be upset with that result. 2020-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What is your ceiling projection for Evan White? (Mahonri from OC) | .280/20/5, though I see potential for ~25 HR power there (Jesse Roche) |
2019-11-22 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Your take on the Evan White contract? M's gonna try this with any other minor leaguers? (Matt from WA) | It's basically the Kingery deal. Kingery was closer to the majors and had a higher floor given the athletic tools, also had more incentive to take it given he wasn't a huge bonus guy. We like White obviously and think the power is getting underrated some, but I also don't know if theirs huge surplus upside for the Mariners here. On the other hand, this is the kind of contract teams wildly overvalue when it comes to dealing prospects so there's that angle too. (Seattle Mariners Top 10 Chat) |
2019-07-31 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Is Evan White worth holding onto in a dynasty league format that holds 100 prospects? (Dillon from Tallahassee) | He's right on the fringe for me. Close enough that his limited upside doesn't hurt as much but depending on league size I'd be looking for more boom/bust types. (Craig Goldstein) |
