2020-01-23 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I think it is fair to classify Jared Oliva as a breakout prospect this year. He didn't make baseballprospectus pirates list last season even though he was able to reach AA this year. It is difficult to read into AZL stats because of the small sample size, but he was able to become a Fall-star. Is it fair to call his breakout real? What type of ceiling would you put on a player like him? (Sammie from Oxford, CT) | Sure, the breakout was real enough. Still on the older side, and may lack a carrying tool to be an everyday guy, but non-zero chance everything plays up enough that he's a solid everyday guy. Probably more of a good fourth outfielder/fringe starter type though. (NL Central Top 10 Chat) |
2019-10-23 14:00:00 (link to chat) | So you Jared Olivia getting an opportunity early in Pittsburgh or a late callup? (Frances from Stevens point) | Lots of Jared Oliva questions. I'd expect him to spend most of the year in Triple-A but yeah a call up isn't out of the question. Steve Givarz just wrote up an eyewitness report on him recently: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/54534/eyewitness-accounts-daniel-lynch-brandon-marsh-show-major-league-tools/ (Craig Goldstein) |
