2018-06-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Michel Baez seems to be holding his own in a hitters league. Reports still down?
(Sean99 from Orland Park)
A little, but he's struggled with some injury stuff too. It's not a further breakout, but he's still a very very good pitching prospect. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Michel Baez still worth getting excited about?
(Nicky from Detroit)
Sure, although the buzz and secondaries are down a bit this year. And the back injury hasn't helped. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-05-25 12:15:00 (link to chat)Were we all a bit too high on Michel Baez?
(Alex from Pilsen)
Nah, he's a beast in my opinion. The stuff plays, but the Cal League is tough and it's early days. I think he adjusts. (Craig Goldstein)
2018-02-28 20:00:00 (link to chat)I have picks #4 and #6 in a dynasty minors draft. Top six available are Tatis, Whitley, Bichette, Buehler, Gore, and then a group of Michel Baez, Kyle Wright, Jesus Luzardo, Shane McLanahan, Ethan Hankins and Bobby Witt Jr. Would you care to rank them by ceiling please? Thanks a million!
(Mr. Fister from Arlington)
Ceiling? Hmm. Tatis, Whitley, Gore, Baez, Bichette, Luzardo, Wright. I haven't done much research on 2018-9 class, sorry! Though I have certainly heard Witt is a DUDE. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-01-23 23:00:00 (link to chat)So is it crazy if a year from now Michel Baez is the top pitching prospect in baseball? Reyes, Kopech, Honeywell, Gohara should all be ineligible.
(James M from Boston)
I don't think that's crazy, no. If you're looking for a guy who checks most all of the boxes and could take another big step forward into that conversation, he's on the short list of A-ball arms. Dude's a monster with preternatural feel for how to control his monstrous body. That's not a common combination. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat)Now that the season is coming to an end who are some prospects you'd pick up in dynasty leagues to hold in the offseason?
(Chansen8895 from San Jose)
Michel Baez was my favorite breakout this year in dynasty leagues, though if you're beyond like a shallow-pool 12-teamer there's a good chance that ship has sailed already. I grabbed Austin Hays in a couple leagues, he did nothing but rake this year between A+ and AA. Monte Harrison started to put it together a bit this year, he's a solid add for the upside. On the other end of the spectrum, Brian Anderson hit really well, has made his MLB debut, and should have the chance to win a regular job in Miami next year - he fits the mold of a boring but potentially overlooked contributor. In deep, dark leagues, Freudis Nova in the Houston system as a 5-tooler with a shot to stick at short. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat)Michel Baez offseason top 101? Yay, maybe, or nay?
(Matt from Los Angeles)
If he doesn't make it, it certainly won't be because I stood in the way of it. We haven't gotten to the back half of the list in our initial conversations yet, but I think there's a pretty good chance he'll feature on it. Dudes with his size, raw stuff, and at least flashes of an ability to control it just aren't that common. Even if he never develops quite enough command/consistency to start (and, again, early returns are not skeptical), he can be a high-leverage monster. The visuals in this (excellent!) piece by Will are...well, let's just say I wouldn't feel comfortable linking 'em if this wasn't an after-dark chat: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=32699 (Wilson Karaman)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is Fort Wayne a fun team to watch play with the youth on the squad? Anything you can give me on Hudson Potts, Michel Baez, or the ghost of Anderson Espinoza would be appreciated.
(Esteban from SD)
Very fun,I've seen them multiple times this year, nice mix of young international and high drafted American players. Potts was one of the youngest in last years draft. He started slow this year but is really barrelling up the ball lately while playing a nice third base. I got my first look at Michel Baez last night. Heavy fastball with life, overpowered Kane County. Secondary stuff is a work in progress, but if he gets them right, look out. Espinoza's stuff was electric last year, hated seeing him get hurt. Check out Will Siskel's scouting report on him from last summer.

2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Have you seen Michel Baez in person yet? If so, what was the stuff like and how high of a ceiling do you think he could have?
(lipsgardner from The toilet)
I saw him last evening in Fort Wayne. The fastball was heavy, sitting 93-94 and touching 95. He only showed the change a few times and it looked to be legit. The curve, however, was all over the place. If the secondary develops, I see a ceiling of mid rotation starter.

2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Do you have any insight on Marcus Wilson?
(Sean L. from AZ)
I saw him hit a bomb off of Michel Baez last night in my first look. High ceiling type, fast and has some pop.

2017-07-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Padres RHP Michel Baez has pitched 18 innings in Low-A and looks nearly unhittable. 1 ER (0.50 ERA), 5 H total. Is this the next big helium pitcher?
(Jeremy from SD)
ALWAYS take low minors performance with a grain of salt. He has pitched well, but the youtube video of him from this spring, provided by FanGraphs, shows me there is more major league reliever qualities than starter ones. (Javier Barragan)
