2019-10-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat, Do you think Sixto Sanchez and Matt Manning will be up in 2020. Will they be no 1 type or fall into a more 2-3 type. thanks
(easterbrook from ontario canada)
I'd expect both to debut at some point, but probably not until the second half or at least post-Super-2. Sixto has the better shot at a top-of-the-rotation outcome, while Manning is more of the number three starter type. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)No Matt Manning? Give me a reason. Thanks!
(James from Detroit)
Manning would be in 111-120. He would be lower on my pref list. The stuff has never popped for me, and while the reports were better this year, I don't see the same third pitch and command projections as the 6/5 type starters in the back quarter of the 101. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-09-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)I was recently offered Deivi Garcia for Matt Manning in my 16 teamer(40 man minor league roster). Which of these arms do you think will fare better long term?
(Bethany from Maryland)
Statistically their profiles have been kind of similar in the minors, but I think Manning might be the better bet just because I think he'll get more of a chance to stick in the rotation. While size is often an overblown issue, Manning's got the projectible 6'6" frame and Garcia's a relatively diminutive 5'10" who will probably have that 'future relief arm' tag hanging over him unless he gets a couple of full major league seasons in a rotation under his belt. (Darius Austin)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)No mention of Alex Faedo Jake rogers Matt Manning..thoughts on why
(sportz from Beverly Hills Mi)
Faedo was close, but had a down junior year (there's a reason he lasted to 18th after being a 1.1 candidate) and has some recent health issues. Rogers is a "good" prospect but wasn't really in contention for 101. I had two looks at Manning this Summer, and they were frankly awful. I asked around and got better reports, but not so good that it made me have second thoughts about not ranking him. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Anyone in SS, Rookie, or DSL standing out to you?
(kjesanis from New Hampshire)
This is way too early to answer and I haven't even made it out to any Penn League games yet, but the reports on Matt Manning are kind of crazy. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-04-05 23:00:00 (link to chat)Dynasty rebuild (25 man x 20 team) where prospects must be carried on roster. Which of the following acquired assets have highest upside/best chance to be "pillars" for the next championship?? ' Bats: Gallo, Josh Bell, Vlad Jr., Nick Williams, Brad Zimmer, Willy Adames, Mateo, Robles, Ames Rosario, Corey Ray Arms: Bundy, Reyes (post injury), Matt Manning, Sandy Alcantara, Walker Buehler
(Loria's Cousin Fazzie from Milwaukee,, Wi)
In terms of cornerstone ceiling, I'd put Gallo, Vlad Jr., Robles, and Reyes in that category of guys I could see topping out as top-50 players. Maybe Ray too? There's varying degrees of risk baked in there - for instance, Gallo's more likely Russell Branyan than he is Babe Ruth. Vlad Jr.'s like 11 and carries the associated developmental risk, etc. It's a solid collection of talent for a rebuild with a window 3-4 years out. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)How confident are you in Matt Manning being able to put everything together and make the front end of a rotation?
(RDBL2014 from Concord, CA)
He's far enough away where the confidence interval is quite large. I like him a lot though. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-01-18 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is it crazy to think Matt Manning becomes the best pitcher in his draft class?
(Ryan from Toledo)
It's not crazy. He probably has the second-highest upside of any arm in the class next to Groome. (Bret Sayre)
2016-08-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)What have you been hearing about Tigers draftee Matt Manning since he was drafted? He's been racking up the Ks in the GCL.
(Gabe from GA)
Not enough, apparently. I just took a look at his GCL stats: 30 IP, 14.1 K/9, 2.1 BB/9. That's outstanding for a 18 year-old in his first taste of professional ball. It seems like Detroit's been rolling him out for quick, 3-inning starts, so he's probably been able to throw a bit harder than he would if he was expected to go 6. That said, I'm really excited to see him take on Low-A next season. Thanks for bringing him up. (Will Haines)
