2019-08-28 12:00:00 (link to chat)Colton Welker has had a dismal season. Prior to this season he had been a hitting machine. Do you think that was a result of the hitting environments he played in or does he possess physical attributes to be a productive hitter at the big league level?
(CubbieBear from Chi-Town)
Hartford is about as nice a park to hit in as Lancaster and Asheville frankly. The bigger issue was the jump to facing Double-A arms. Welker has plenty of bat speed, but he can't really gear down the swing against off speed and that got exploited throughout the year. Ryan McMahon had similar issues his first pass in the Eastern League. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-08-23 15:30:00 (link to chat)Colton Welker or Jeremiah Jackson? Jackson just became available in my dynasty league and he had been on my watch list for a few weeks. Feel like Welker is higher floor, Jackson is higher ceiling.
(Logan from Kennebunk, ME)
Welker for me, in fantasy. Jackson was a guy I liked out of the draft but the hit tool has serious question marks. Maybe similar to what we see of Jazz Chisholm right now. Power is real but will he make enough contact. I think it's fair to say the ceiling is higher there, but I think Welker is the play. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-08-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)Does Colton Welker need a trade to have a successful big league career? or does he find a way to mash for the Rockies?
(lbement from MA)
I still haven't figured out what auguries to use to figure out Rockies prospect playing time. But yeah, he's probably blocked by Pat Valaika or something. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-05-01 12:00:00 (link to chat)Colton Welker is hitting .489 at home (!) and .214 on the road, in the same number of ABs. How hard is it to evaluate Rockies prospects w/ these great hitters' parks? And what do you make of Welker in particular? MLB regular?
(David from Col. Springs)
Hartford is an absolute bandbox, but I think you just ignore the stats and make the eval. I do try to catch them on the road at least once just to calibrate. Welker can hit though, think he will probably end up a backend 101 guy in the solid regular band, but it's really early and the weather here has been shit. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Colton Welker's hit tool translate to the majors, can he be a regular for the Rockies down the line?
(Frank from Charleston )
Yeah, I'm in on Welker as a hitter and a regular. Dude knows what he's doing with the stick. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat)Pick two 3b to have for the next 6 years out of Elhuris Montero, Nolan Jones, Colton Welker, and Sherten Apostel? Most upside? Highest floor?
(Sean of the Dead from Fernway, IL)
Well, we ranked Welker and Jones on the top-101 and had Montero in the HM section. Apostel is a popular sleeper guy right now but is farther away. So thatís the general order. Highest floor is Welker for sure. Most upside is probably Montero or Apostel. - BC (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre)
2018-04-20 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is Colton Welker the future of 3B in the Rockies organization? I will be surprised if they can resign Arenado after keeping Blackmon, and Welker is tearing it up in Lancaster.
(terryallan from CO)
I would guess that is the plan. Honestly they really should extend Arenado though. As much as we like Welker, Arenado is like one of the 20 best position players in baseball. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Which Rockies infield prospects have the best chance of making a top 100 someday? Garrett Hampson? Colton Welker? Ryan Vilade?
(Charlie from DC)
Welker and Vilade both have decent shots. Welker the edge because of what he's already done. Hampson is more of a grindy 45 type. He does have a pretty vocal advocate in the room in Wilson though. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)Colton Welker a product of ashville, or someone to keep an eye on? Also, any news on Daniel Montano, I thought he was going to have a big season. Thanks for the chat!
(Ed from Cleveland)
He's right-handed so he has "only" the elevation going for him. Hit fine away from home and the reports were good as well. Easy top ten guy in that system.

Don't have anything in particular on Montano. Again, most of these guys in the foreign complexes don't hit my radar unless the reports are huge. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Colton Welker now hitting .320/.366/.490 in A ball at 19 years old and it doesn't hurt that his parent club is the rockies. What do you think of Welker, his ceiling and ultimate position/role?
(brad from NJ)
I'm just not interested. He's four, maybe five years away from any sort of fantasy impact. Pass. (George Bissell)
2017-02-06 23:00:00 (link to chat)Is Colton Welker being underrated as a fantasy prospect considering his team? Or is the fact Arenado plays 3rd holding him down?
(Carmen from San Diego)
Arenado has literally nothing to do with Welker, who played in the Pioneer at age 18 lat year and is like 4 years away from best-best-case impact. I wrote about him a few days ago in the most recent Ocean's Floor. He's as solid a flyer as any once you get north of 150 prospects: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=31093 (Wilson Karaman)
