2020-07-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for doing a chat today. Who were the biggest risers and fallers in your latest top 400 dynasty prospects and why? Do you have any strategy in your dynasty leagues for prospects that are not on the 60 man (buy/sell/hold)?
(MK from Houston)
Thanks! Not many risers or fallers since there has been no baseball. Of course, the influx of recent draftees has push many players down the rankings. That said, we need tweak a few rankings upon reevaluation and in light of the lost minor league season (the ramifications of which will touch every prospect in some way). The following prospects made moves (good & bad):

Adley Rutschmann jumps Waters/Robinson due to developmental concerns for the others
Jesus Luzardo from 13 to 15 (COVID positive & Carlson jumps him)
Jasson Dominguez from 26 to 23 (up 5 spots technically w/ 2 draftees slotting in ahead)
Heliot Ramos from 24 to 28 (I prefer the upside of the guys who jumped him)
Taylor Trammell from 34 to 41 (concerned about swing)
Brett Baty from 81 to 96 (concerned about hit tool)
Isaac Paredes from 117 to 150 (concerned about offensive upside)
Colton Welker from 178 to 307 (less confidence in bat)

As for prospects not on the 60-man roster, it depends on the prospect, but I do not think it makes much of a difference to a prospect's value, especially prospects that are far away. Of course, if an upper level (AA/AAA) prospect failed to make the cut, and it is not injury-related, then it may be a sign that the organization has little confidence in that prospect. (Jesse Roche)
2019-09-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)Of Isaac Paredes, Daz Cameron, and Willi Castro who do you think is the most likely to be an above average regular?
(Champdo from Sarasota )
I'm guessing Cameron ends up highest on the Tigers list, but I'm not super in on any of the three. Diaz and Paredes were both OFP 55s coming into the season, but I'm less bullish on Paredes, and Daz has gone through another of his "intermittently forgot how to hit" periods. I like Castro personally, but he's more of a good utility type. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-06-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)After the recent graduations of Urías and Verdugo to MLB, who's the best Mexican prospect in the minors right now?
(Alberto from Mexico)
Unclear which Urias you mean, but assuming you're excluding Luis (he's still a prospect), probably...Isaac Paredes? (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat)If Isaac Paredes is forced to move off of 3B, does his bat play at 1B/DH? I assume he'll get better power results in AAA with the juiced ball.
(Ash from Detroit)
I blurbed Paredes in NFTF a couple weeks ago, noting that a lot of things would have to go right for him to be a MLB regular. Moving to 1B would be something going wrong, although he stretched at third even now. The swing looks fine, and maybe the new ball helps him a lot, but it doesn't really jump now. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat)How close was Isaac Paredes to making the list?
(Squirtle from Toronto)
He’d probably be in my top-150 because he’s close to contributing now. He’s tough to evaluate in dynasty because most of his value is likely to come as an accumulator, but ... he might not be quite good enough to stay in the lineup every day and accumulate. I don’t hate the bat though. - BC (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre)
2019-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)Was Isaac Paredes close to making the top 101. Was surprised to see him so high in the minors as a teenager
(DeMarcus from Detroit)
Sure, he was on the long list and like Cameron probably would have been 125 +/- a few spots. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)Jazz Chisholm had 28.4% and 32.5% K rates over two A ball levels last season. Though his ranking is nice why is he a better bet than Isaac Paredes (understand Paredes might/will move off SS) or O'Neil Cruz?
(Steve from NJ)
Chisholm is a much much better defensive shortstop than either and those K-rates came with .513 slugging. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-12-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Anticipating that he will be the everyday shortstop when he suits up for Detroit this spring, Jordy Mercer will be the most-experienced player to make his team debut at that position for the Tigers since Jhonny Peralta in 2010 and the oldest (I think) since Adam Everett in 2009. I've scouted Mercer's modest stat line, but you've watched him regularly with the Pirates. What do you think it's reasonable for the Tigers to expect to get from Mercer in 2019?
(Alec Denton from Atlanta)
Mercer is your basic generic shortstop. The advanced metrics all agree that he's become a below-average fielder, but it's more a case of him not making the spectacular play than butchering routine ones. Jose Iglesias he's not. Two things to be concerned about. First, he's never played more than 149 games in a season, so expect to see a fair amount of Ronny Rodriguez. Second, the bat, which was acceptable in 2016 and 2017, declined in 2018. Could be injuries, or could be a guy who's 32. In any case, he's down-in-the-order placeholder, but looking at the Tigers' farm system, I'm not exactly sure for whom. Isaac Paredes? Tigers gonna win, what, 65-75 games this year, maybe? Mercer's not going to keep them out of the postseason or anything. (Rob Mains)
2016-09-27 21:00:00 (link to chat)Is Isaac Paredes the next great Cub MIF prospect in the system? he was raking as a teenager and reports have him as at least an average defender
(DTH from SF)
Oh, man. I have literally never even heard of him. He sounds great! (Matthew Trueblood)
2016-09-07 19:00:00 (link to chat)What can you tell us about Isaac Paredes? He's a player that i know very little about, but for him to be called up to South Bend for the playoffs is very interesting.
(Ryan from Chicago)
Not much that you don't already know. He was a six-figure bonus guy and obviously the Cubs think highly of him. Suspect Mauricio Rubio is the guy to ask on this one. (Jarrett Seidler)
