2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat)Is Akil Baddoo a Khalil Lee light?
(Flex from San Diego)
Actually, yea, though Ben might think I'm slighting Lee a bit. I don't think Baddoo is a big power or speed guy, but he'll have enough of both and he'll get on base. -BS (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre)
2019-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)How far away was Akil Baddoo?
(ppppfffft from Toronto)
Probably closer to top 200 than top 150. He needs a consolidation year, and we are a bit concerned about his ability to handle spin. Was an aggressive assignment though. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Akil Baddoo - next Twins CF heir apparent in the venerable Puckett-Hunter-Span-Revere-Hicks-Buxton line?
(JB01 from St. Paul)
That line gets a little wonky in recent years. I was happy to see how highly the BP prospect team thinks of Baddoo. I'm a little lower on him, just because I tend to be more conservative with non-elite prospects still in the low minors, but he could be a 2019 breakout. Of course, I'm still hoping that Buxton is the Twins' center fielder by the time Baddoo is ready for the majors.. (Aaron Gleeman)
2018-07-13 15:00:00 (link to chat)Two non-Wander Javier questions about Twins prospects: First, Brent Rooker started slow but has been crushing the ball over the last two months. Do you think he's capable of taking over the Twins 1B job within the next 18 months? Also, Akil Baddoo is pretty good, right?
(Actually in from Minnesota)
I'm writing a longer form thing about right-handed hitting first base prospects (well have been for a while, midseason list and Futures has swallowed everything). The margins for this profile are just so thin. Like the .797 OPS he put up this year so far isn't really good enough? These guys have to be 55s or there isn't a major league roster spot for them. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)What to make of Akil Baddoo's season? Good overall numbers but it's been a weird season for his stat line. Before the hammy injury: .227/.403/.328 with 21.8% BB%, 31.4% K%, .101 ISO After the hammy injury: .271/.344/.542 with 10% BB%, 18.8% K%, .271 ISO
(actually in atlanta from atlanta)
I haven't had a chance to see Baddoo yet this year, hopefully soon. I don't know if the injury had much to do with the turn around in performance. Midwest League can be brutally cold early in the season, the bat might have gotten better with the weather. Also, could just be development. (Nathan Graham)
2018-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)How has Akil Baddoo look in the games you've seen him in?
(Sara from Tacoma)
Haven't caught him yet, hope to soon. There has been a lot of talent on the Cedar Rapids team. (Nathan Graham)
2018-07-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)What is the absolutely best outcome for Akil Baddoo? It looks like he can hit for average but does he have power potential?
(cracker73 from Florida )
There is definitely the potential for some power there. Best outcome is a 20-20 CF. The big jump in K rate this year is a concern for me though. (Scott Delp)
2018-05-25 12:15:00 (link to chat)I'm baffled by Akil Baddoo. A strikeout rate above 30% and a walk rate above 20% puts his three-true outcome rate in Joey Gallo territory, but he's doing it without much power. What do you make of his unique prospect?
(Eric from Atlanta)
Yeah it's been a real weird situation for Baddoo, and I'm not sure I'd qualify it as a positive despite the uh, healthy, walk rate. I expect things to normalize going forward. (Craig Goldstein)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)What does Akil Baddoo have to do to be top 50 next year?
(Kole from St. Paul)
The power he showed in short-season is real and it continues to show up in games in full season. That gets him most of the way there I think. He wasn't all that far off the 101 this year. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)A few under the radar prospects I really love: Andres Gimenez, Wander Javier, Danny Jansen, Akil Baddoo, Jorge Guzman, and Dennis Santana on the Dodgers. Any of these guys jump out at you at big risers in 2018?
(hunt4prospects from USA)
Okay it's actually Wander Javier here. No joke.

I like Gimenez too, but he's more of a slow burn profile. The pitchers are likely both relievers (here's Wilson's Santana report http://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_pit.php?reportid=497). Jansen is more a good backup, Baddoo is legit too. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Twins prospect Akil Baddoo? Only 18 last year and his rookie ball numbers were even more impressive than Ronald Acuna's. Don't scout the stat line, sure, but reports have been impressive. Is he going to shoot up ranks?
(Squids from Out West)
He's a legit breakout candidate, yeah. Less likely to stick in center a year ago, but if the power projection comes it won't really matter. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Akil Baddoo -- is it OK to be irrationally excited? His performance in the Appy league at that age, with that patience, is pretty awesome, no?
(Jimmy K from WAS)
Okay here you can get irrationally excited. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat)Hey, thanks for the chat! I know you're driving the bus on Wander Javier, but what do you think about his 80 grade name teammate Akil Baddoo?
(Jake from Kalamazoo)
Our fearless leader Bret is a big Baddoo man: https://twitter.com/BretSayreBP/status/907693548472074240

He's pretty fast and has shown solid bat-to-ball so far, both as an amateur and then this season. Guys who hit .300 with more walks than strikeouts while >2 years young for their level are inherently interesting (particularly for those of you who play in OBP leagues). He's probably a LF-only profile, so the bat's gonna have to carry the day. (Wilson Karaman)
