2020-09-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Other than Davis, Howard and Marquez, who are the Best names of the next wave of Cubbies?
(Raoul from Duluth)
Those are the big 3, for sure. The system is not really teeming with top-end prospects. Miguel Amaya is promising, but definitely in a real life over fantasy way. (Mark Barry)
2020-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey thanks for the chat. Who are a few of your favorite break out guys this year?
(sykklone from IA)
Other than the J2 guys I already mentioned, and trying not to pick the obvious guys, I'll go position-by-position:
Catcher - Miguel Amaya
First Base - Bryce Ball
Second Base - Miguel Hiraldo, Maikol Escotto, Keithron Moss & Kendall Simmons
Third Base - Hudson Potts & Aaron Schunk
Shortstop - Jose Garcia, Ryan Vilade, Maikel Garcia & Jacob Amaya
Outfield - Heriberto Hernandez, Kyle Isbel, Peyton Burdick, Bryant Packard & Brayan Buelvas
Pitcher - Cole Winn, Luis Medina, Tahmaj Thomas, Blake Walston, Luis Frias, Adam Kloffenstein, Daulton Jefferies, Ricky Vanasco & Yerry Rodriguez (Jesse Roche)
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your favorite young catchers after Rutschman for dynasty purposes?
(Jordan from Milwaukee)
I could just point to our Top 101 and our Top 40 catchers, but where is the fun in that? After Rutschman, my rankings are:
2. Joey Bart
3. Daulton Varsho
4. Sean Murphy
5. Luis Campusano
6. Francisco Alvarez
7. Keibert Ruiz
8. Zack Collins
9. Diego Cartaya
10. Tyler Stephenson
11. Ivan Herrera
12. Miguel Amaya
13. Sam Huff
14. Andrew Knizner
15. Ryan Jeffers
16. William Contreras
17. Alejandro Kirk
18. Gabriel Moreno
19. Ronaldo Hernandez
20. Cal Raleigh
21. Bo Naylor
22. Mario Feliciano
23. Shea Langeliers
24. Connor Wong
25. Korey Lee (Jesse Roche)
2018-09-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)who are your favorite prospects that put up a big second half or are due for a big bump on the 2019 preseason rankings?
(Chansen8895 from San jose)
I think familiar names that will take a big leap would be Ke'Bryan Hayes, Wander Franco, Trevor Larnach and Taylor Trammell. I sort of like Miguel Amaya as an under-the-radar guy as well. And, like, everyone in the Padres org. (Mark Barry)
2018-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who have been the best players you have seen this year?
(Lance from Ft. Worth)
On the mound, I really like MacKenzie Gore. I have not caught Hunter Greene yet, but Gore has the best stuff I've seen so far. Position players, the Twins have a pair of potential stars in Royce Lewis and Alex Kirilloff. I also like the Cubs Miguel Amaya, Cardinals Elehuris Montero, and Cleveland's Will Benson. The Fort Wayne team has also been a lot of fun to watch with all their young talent. (Nathan Graham)
2018-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of ceiling does Miguel Amaya have?
(Will from Indianapolis)
I really like Amaya, he's still really raw but has a ton of talent. I put a ceiling of an above average everyday major league catcher on him. I think he's a piece that would be attractive to other teams if the Cubs are active at the deadline this year. (Nathan Graham)
2018-07-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hello! Thanks for your Q&A. My question is about Minor League catchers. It seems that we have more good ones than usual. I can name a dozen off the top of my (bald) head. Which Minor League catchers to you rate most likely to be good fantasy roster investments? Thanks!
(colonel from Oxford)
Hey Colonel, thanks for stopping by. We've had a nice little influx of catchers recently. MJ Melendez, Miguel Amaya, Keibert Ruiz, William Contreras, Ronaldo Hernandez. Good group and more I didn't name. I think I like Ruiz the best of any catcher in the minors followed by Hernandez. Ruiz is one of a handful of teens at Double-A and has a 7.7 K% (albeit mediocre production elsewhere, but he's 19!) (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-07-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)Where do you slot Miguel Amaya among catcher prospects?
(Steve from Philly)
Positional rankings are more of an offseason project, but I'd think top five offhand? Mejia and Ruiz obviously, Joey Bart if he counts, anyone else? (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-05-25 12:15:00 (link to chat)How do William Contreras and Miguel Amaya compare to MJ Melendez as far as catching prospects are concerned?
(Mike from Phoenix)
I like Melendez, Contreras, and Amaya in that order. It's obviously early days for all of them, but the tools are just so loud with Melendez. None of that should be construed as being down on the other two, especially considering Amaya's defense. I'm just holding off on buying into the offensive profile there, as I don't think he has the ceiling of the other two just yet. (Craig Goldstein)
