2020-09-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)I see Vlad is holding steady in your ranks. So you guys aren’t down on him much this year?
(John from Boston)
Not at all. We are still big believers. In fact, I would say his season so far at just 21 years old has been a success. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is hitting .269/.340/.462, and .297/.377/.515 since 8/4, with 92nd percentile average exit velocity and 93rd percentile hard hit rate. At the same time, he makes plenty of contact (15% K%, 24% Whiff%). I expect he will continue to improve as well. The kid is legit. (Jesse Roche)
2019-05-13 16:00:00 (link to chat)If you had the power to make it happen, what would you do in the area of service time manipulation? The spectrum I've seen discussed ranges from status quo all the way to eliminating the draft entirely and going with a pure free agency model. Do you have a grand solution you've been kicking about?
(dcfreema from Madison, WI)
While prefacing anything by saying it's a very complicated issue and one that requires a creative solution, I think building something around age rather than around service time would be a step in the right direction. If, say, the Blue Jays controlled Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for X calendar years instead of X years of MLB service time, there would be no incentive to leave him in the minors for even one day past the point they thought he was ready to contribute positively. And that's how it should be. That's an entry-level solution to a problem that requires more than that, of course. (Aaron Gleeman)
2018-08-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Doesnt sound like you like prospects. Baseball prospects to be clear.
(Gerald from Sacramento)
I think Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is probably one of the best 25-30 hitters in baseball. Not MiLB, all of baseball. (Rob Mains)
2017-09-07 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is Tatis a top 5 prospect starting next season? Could he make it to the majors in 2018?
(Mike from California )
Probably not, but it's not because he isn't awesome. He's awesome. But the top four seem pretty locked in as Ronald Acuna, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Victor Robles and Eloy Jimenez. Tatis is in the conversation for that fifth spot along with several other guys, but if I have to pick Tatis or the field for that last spot, I'll take the field. This is in no way an insult to Tatis, who, as I said earlier, is awesome. (Scooter Hotz)
