2019-11-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)I was excited about Taylor Ward but I suppose everyone raked in AAA this year. Could he hit enough to be a starter or is he more of a bench bat?
(The Colonel from Pasadena, CA)
There are some AAAAish markers in the profile at this point. Now, he doesn't have to get much of that PCL pop into MLB games to be a useful catcher, but the major league sample has been really boom/bust so far and mostly bust. (Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat)
2018-08-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Taylor Ward going forward?
(Sean from LA)
I like him. I think he's been the victim of some poor luck in his major league stint. Still making good contact and his swing rates are all solid. It's a shame he won't retain catcher eligibility next year because I think he would have cracked the top 10. (Eddy Almaguer)
2016-12-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)If you had to turn the Angels into a contender in this offseason, how would you do it? No care in the world about future prospects but realistic spending limits. As long as you can win in 2017, that's all that matters.
(JustinPerline from NY)
Hey Justin. They're actually not as far away as one might imagine. Part One: DON'T TRADE TROUT. Part Two: Sign Tyson Ross, because your entire rotation is about crossing your fingers anyway. Then I sign Chase Utley for the infield. Deal Jahmai Jones and Taylor Ward for a starting pitcher. Maybe I trade Cam Bedrosian to a team that wants a cheap closer ... for another starting pitcher and worry about the bullpen in July.

(The answer is more/better starting pitching.) (Bryan Grosnick)
2015-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)have you seen any of the 2015 draftees that make you think they were either considerably over or under drafted?
(JoeRandom from San Jose)
Had mixed feelings about Tate. The slider's filthy, but while he's a physical monster it's a very high-effort delivery and I worry about the starting potential. I saw him early in his transition from the pen, so I'll discount the velocity slide as his start progressed, but I thought he was one of the weaker 1st pitchers off the board in recent memory. Ponce ended up going right around where I thought he should after some rumblings about a first round future, so thought the Brewers did okay there. Thought the Bucs did very well snagging Kevin Kramer 62nd overall. Don't think he's a SS, but all he did all spring was spray line drives around the yard every time I saw him play. I'm looking forward to putting eyes on Taylor Ward, who was a pick that got roundly mocked/criticized at the time but seems to have solid defensive chops and at least a puncher's chance at developing his bat based on early pro reports I've gotten. Should see him next year at IE. (Wilson Karaman)
